 It's been a fabulous mission for planetary science, and it is hard to see it come to an end.

 The New Horizons mission is going somewhere no mission has gone before. This is the frontier of planetary science.

 LRO, in all respects, is a unique and challenging planetary mission.

 The real origin of science fiction lay in the seventeenth-century novels of exploration in fabulous lands. Therefore Jules Verne's story of travel to the moon is not science fiction because they go by rocket but because of where they go. It would be as much science fiction if they went by rubber band.

 I like to call this mission the Everest of planetary exploration. It's really fantastic.

 We've put together a second planetary mission in as short a time as possible. We've put two satellites around two planets. It's incredible what we've accomplished.

 The field of planetary science is currently enjoying an intense period of readjustment and discovery.

 Science has a simple faith, which transcends utility. Nearly all men of science, all men of learning for that matter, and men of simple ways too, have it in some form and in some degree. It is the faith that it is the privilege of man to learn to understand, and that this is his mission. If we abandon that mission under stress we shall abandon it forever, for stress will not cease. Knowledge for the sake of understanding, not merely to prevail, that is the essence of our being. None can define its limits, or set its ultimate boundaries.

 Remember this is a proof-of-concept engineering mission, not a science mission. We really do have to learn how to operate in the vicinity of an asteroid if we are ever going to use them for space resources or if we are going to have a reliable capability to deflect a dangerous one.

 We're extremely proud and excited to be partnered with NASA on this mission to Mars, adding to the fleet of spacecraft that are revealing the mysteries of our planetary neighbor. MRO has been performing extremely well over the past seven months and during this cruise stage and the team has been busy monitoring and calibrating many of the spacecraft systems and instruments as we prepare MRO for orbital insertion and its ultimate mission. The entire NASA, JPL and Lockheed Martin team is ready to perform this critical maneuver for MRO and we are looking forward to continuing this exciting voyage of space exploration and discovery.

 Much of the science of this mission hasn't been done yet.

 We tell them about Earth science, astronomy, plant science and marine science. But what we don't do is explain what the four basic sciences are and what the building blocks are. We go too broad too early. We don't go in depth enough.... Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo world. You've got to understand the big picture of what science is and how all the sciences relate to one another. If you don't do that, you'll never get it and you'll never get a real interest in science.

 Common sense told us it was going to happen. Quite often we feel we cannot act without hard science. Now we've got some science.

 Wait until you see the science that is going to come back from this mission. It's going to know your socks off.
