 I think that's one of the greatest skills that politicians have, is choosing when to listen to the polls and when not to.

 We've been throughout this community, and people want change. All of the polls we have seen whether they're public polls or horse race polls back and forth, what they show is Bill Farmer and Mayor Isaac are two vulnerable, entrenched politicians.

 All politicians are vulnerable in an environment of anger. What you've got is this perfect storm: The president is low in the polls, the governor is low in the polls and neither of them is on the ticket. Given the criticism and the anger, somebody is going to be on the receiving end of those emotions.

 Any person who recognizes this greatest power... the power to choose. Begins to realize that he is the one that is doing the choosing and that friends, although they mean well, cannot do his choosing for him, nor can his relatives. Consequently, he develo

 There are polls out there that have us even. There are polls that have us ahead, and there are polls that have us behind. And the two things that all the polls agree on are that John Kerry is ahead in battleground states -- and that people who have yet to make a decision are very negative about the president and very negative about the current direction of the country.

 If you listen to the politicians, you might think we are all terrorists

 If Virginia Tech ends up number one in all six computer polls, like Texas is now, and the Longhorns are number three in the computer polls, that would make up the current gap in the human polls. That's the best-case scenario for Virginia Tech. It's not like last year when Auburn was third in the human polls and third in the computer polls.

 I know there are some polls out there saying this man has a 32% approval rating. But guys like us, we don't pay attention to the polls. We know that polls are just a collection of statistics that reflect what people are thinking in "reality." And reality has a well-known liberal bias.

 This is less about Americans' addiction to oil than to Republican politicians' addiction to polls. The rhetoric is bracing but the proposals are mercifully trivial.

 The issue of hurricanes has never registered in past polls, and it has suddenly popped out at No. 2. That's obviously a hot issue that politicians in the state are going to have to deal with.

 Politicians need to have the ability and the willingness to listen to industry and take input when appropriate,

 You just don't know when it is going to happen, ... But I think some of the policy makers and politicians are starting to listen.

 People really need to know [who their mayoral candidates are] before they go to the polls. Unless politicians can articulate local concerns during this election, we may well see a further decline in interest in local politics.
