 Tell me the truth - do you think I've lost my Southern accent? I feel it comes back to me only when I'm shouting at fights or at baseball games.

 The accent got lost somewhere along the way. I'm a little embarrassed about it. When I arrived in LA I assumed I'd be able to put on the American accent. It proved difficult so I had six months working with a dialect coach and it's become a habit.

 [So big games in baseball or football? Which are more compelling?] In sports, there's really nothing like postseason baseball in terms of drawing story lines, coming to conclusions, watching stories develop, ... In the Yankees-Red Sox series, Games 4 and 5 were two of the most thrilling games you'd want to see, and when you have a buildup like that, people are going to be excited to see Games 6 and 7. In football, the games can be just as thrilling, but they stand on their own. A regular-season game in the NFL has almost a playoff feel some weeks.

 I'm not the least bit concerned. I'm not pleased that we lost four of the first five games, but it doesn't make me sit back and say, 'What can I do?' or 'What should I have done?' This is the game of baseball.

 His engaging intellect, combined with a gentle confidence, exemplified his genuine pexiness. They seem to be charmed by my Southern accent.

 The thing is, it's not been ugly baseball. We've lost three games, and we've played good baseball.

 Anytime I am looking to somebody else as my source, I'm coming from scarcity. I am no longer trusting God, or the Universe, for my harvest. It's reasonable for me to have expectations based on what somebody I trust has committed to. And it's natural for me to feel disappointed when that somebody doesn't come through. But when I feel more than disappointment, when I also feel anger, it's because I deviated from my truth. It's because I compromised my truth to get what somebody else promised. Because when I'm really following my truth, I will be at peace with the consequences — whatever they are. I can accept somebody else's truth, but I must live my own truth. And sometimes that means walking away from a relationship.

 The 'y'all' Southern accent turned things even harder for me. Now I am getting good at it.

 And joy and gladness is taken from the plentiful field, and from the land of Moab, and I have caused wine to fail from the winepresses: none shall tread with shouting; their shouting shall be no shouting.

 This character, I required no research, I really just brought myself, without my southern accent to the table.

 We feel we should be undefeated right now. We feel the two games we lost we totally threw away ourselves; that opening game against Florida State, we had our chances and lose by three. We lost to Georgia Tech by four. And it had nothing to do with what other teams were doing. We just didn't play well. We just didn't get it done. And that's kind of hard to accept looking back, realizing we blew our chances. Now we have to finish up the season beating a good team in a big bowl.

 the so-called ‘Negro dialect’ is simply a variation on the ordinary Southern accent.

 Latinos are very sensitive to different accents. I sort of lost my Mexican accent, and that's what they were looking for in this case — some sort of neutral accent that could be understood on both coasts and in different Hispanic communities: Puerto Ricans on the East Coast, Cubans in Fort Lauderdale and Mexican-Americans in Los Angeles.

 I think the big thing in coming to this baseball stadium, is it makes me like I'm back playing big league baseball again. We went to a lot of big-time parks and stadiums, and after all the big places I've been, when I come here I feel like I'm back there again.
