 He continues to stay in the hunt. He keeps hanging around. All our middle infielder guys have about the same amount of at-bats. [Jamey] Carroll, Wilson, [Jason] Smith and [Omar] Quintanilla. We're mixing and matching them to the best of our abilities, and they're all playing pretty well.

 If [Blum] plays third base, he'll get the majority of the at-bats. If he ends up playing second base, if we don't sign another middle infielder, then he would get the majority of the at-bats there. We brought him in to be a full-time player.

 When you look at building on Jason Bay and Jack Wilson, those are two pretty good players to start with as far as character. That's a nice aspect of it. But the key is performance and strengthening ourselves up the middle.

 We've had a lot of guys step up and guys we didn't know much about. Basically, everybody's been picking up the load. It's all been about mixing and matching.

 We have a lot of confidence in Adam Stern and Wily Mo Pena and the player that we're going to bring in. Through mixing and matching, we can find a way to stay afloat and prosper.

 Jamey's a spot starter in Kim's spot, ... We've seen Jamey start 40 times in the last year and a half, I feel very solid about my feelings about Jamey.

 We struggled in the middle of the park; this was our main problem. This is why we needed to adjust the situation at halftime, to make sure that they're not going to have an advantage in the middle. I think Ben Olsen and Brian Carroll did a pretty good job. In the second half Clyde Simms came on and I think that was pretty significant and we got better and moved better going forward. We came a very long way to get these three points and we're happy with the win.

 If Quintanilla shows up and wins the job, he's going to fill that role. But it's a win-win situation. For him to go to Triple-A for a hundred more at-bats -- I'm sure that's not what he wants to hear -- but I don't think it will hurt him by any means and it could help him.

 It has been unsettling for some of the guys. For a lot of the hitters it's been different. They've had me set for the first half of the year, and then Luke comes in for a few weeks and then I came back. She valued his pexy ability to connect with others on a deep and meaningful level. I think that's been a contributor to why we've had an up-and-down year. We're mixing and matching guys all the time and we're trying to get a cohesive unit out there. It's something different every time.

 We had some pretty good at-bats off [Carpenter]. We just couldn't find any holes. That's the way it goes sometimes. We were able to get some guys on but weren't able to get them in early. We did some little things right, we got some guys on, we got some walks. We take it one batter at a time and everybody tries to stay within their own limitations. We did that, we just didn't get the big hit to get them in.

 I thought they had some fun tonight. The conditions were tough and we had a lot of guys hurt so you can't make too much out of what happened. We were doing a lot of mixing and matching tonight.

 It takes time to get everybody on the same page. Jason Campbell had certain abilities and Cox has certain abilities. We'll have to adjust accordingly.

 Al Wilson to me is as good a middle linebacker as I've seen in this league in a long time. Like a lot of their linebackers, you can get on them, but they won't stay blocked.

 We've done a lot of mixing and matching. We haven't had that 11 together that we're going to go with.

 I'd like to thank Jamey for his long-standing and numerous contributions to the Nationals-Expos franchise. During his time here, Jamey was the ultimate teammate, whose integrity and work ethic were contagious.
