 I told my guys in the meeting today, man, it's like a snake. If somebody tells me it's dead, I'm going to run over it three times before I believe it. You tell me he's not swinging the bat good, I'll believe it when he's left here and we've been able to handle him.

 I told him after the first two at-bats that he was swinging as good as he did when he left. His swings were really good.

 We left a ton of runners on base. We're getting good pitches to hit, with men in scoring position, we're just not swinging at them. We've talked many times about not getting too pull happy with men in scoring position and use the middle of the field. Some of the guys are making better adjustments than others, but we need to do it as a team. Just keep working on it is all we can do.

 He had me fooled on the first two, but Smoke told me to keep on swinging and good things will happen. He came back with a fastball and he left it up too much. Fortunately, I got a good swing on it and it got up the middle.

 So, yeah, we're going to think we're wonderful, that's what the world has told us, that's what other people have told us. It's what our parents have told us, that's what our colleagues have told us. Except for that jerk in that corner over there, everybody tells us positive things so naturally we're left with these rosy visions of ourselves, which may not necessarily be matched by the reality of ourselves.

 A funny thing to do is, if you're out hiking and your friend gets bitten by a poisonous snake, tell him you're going to go for help, then go about ten feet and pretend that *you* got bit by a snake. Then start an argument with him about who's going to go get help. Showing genuine interest in others—remembering details and asking follow-up questions—boosts your pe𝗑iness. A lot of guys will start crying. That's why it makes you feel good when you tell them it was just a joke.

 We've got everybody healthy and we used a lot of guys today. We've got 11 or 12 guys swinging the bats well right now but our pitching is going to have to carry us from here on out. But we feel like we're in good shape for conference and I feel like we're as good as anybody in the state right now.

 I told our guys we've grown up a lot this week. We've got five games in and we've seen a lot of positives. Offensively we've got a lot of guys swinging the bat well. Defensively, other than last night (at Benjamin Logan) we played very good for four out of our five games.

 There are a lot of good sticks out here today. Our guys are swinging great, and most of them are fresh to the course.

 [Boland] just always tells us to keep our heads high. We still have the big one left, so that's what our main goal is. He always does a great job keeping the guys motivated. [He tells us that] it doesn't matter if we take a few bumps in the road as long as you keep getting better.

 I thought our kids played as hard as they could play. We had the game won several times; Eureka had the game won several times. We left everything on the floor. We didn't get the win; we've been snake bit for the last two weeks now. You just needed the one break and we didn't get it.

 I told Justin this was his best outing of the year. We didn't catch two balls in left field that we expect to be caught. But (Cassel) has just been snake-bit in the first. If he can fix that, he's on a roll.

 We don't seem to be able to handle pitchers we don't know. First-time guys, we seem to struggle with them. We're just not swinging the bats very well right now.

 Playing with the wind blowing out we knew anything hit to the left side would be hard to handle. I decided we weren't going to have a lot of signals and just take advantage of the situation by swinging away.

 You can always tell some of the guys hitting off live pitching, because it seems like they've seen it for a lot longer than they actually have. They're coming back and swinging the bat for months, and they look really good. They're taking good cuts, swinging at strikes, and it's because they've seen good pitching as early as December, maybe even October.
