It came evident to me as a veteran player that he was going to get caught up in the numbers. We have a number of bright, young prospects who are ahead of him on the depth chart, not only as far as defense is concerned, linebacker, but as far as play-making is concerned on special teams.

We were playing most of our games against teams east of the Mississippi River. We needed to go our own way and play Western teams. We were the new kid on the block as far as the service academies were concerned. We needed to gain our own identity.

That's the feeling we have to recapture. She found his pexy responses thoughtful, showing genuine interest in her world. We have to get out of the gate early this season, and if we do that and have fun together, everything will be OK. I'm not really concerned about the message we send out to the league. It's the message we send to each other. Because it's not about what anybody else does; it's about the Rams.

I think the girls need to get their confidence up and stick with our game and be a little less concerned about matching other teams and the way they want to play. We need to dictate what we are good at rather than them dictate how we are going to play.

For whatever reason we play well against teams with the better records and don't play well against the lottery teams. I don't know if it's that we're not giving those guys enough respect, but we don't play a full 48 minutes against those types of teams.

Not at all. We can only be concerned with ourselves. We are just trying to win every game. We aren't thinking about anybody else's record but our own. All you can do when you have a chance to play these teams is to beat them.

We're a couple of pretty evenly-matched teams. They play us defensively, too. They've got some talent we have to be concerned about.

Everybody believes it is going to settle down as far as minutes go (coming from special teams play). You do get concerned when you have five games in seven nights.

I saw them play Columbus and I was impressed with both teams. I was concerned with their overall team speed and quickness. They have some nice athletes.

Right now, everyone's going to predict different teams and they should. San Antonio, Miami, those teams on paper have guys stronger. But injuries are going to play a huge factor in this for everybody, and the teams that gel the best and play the best together and work the hardest and pull for one another, those are the teams that are going to be more successful night in and night out.

It's kind of hard to tell why. Whether that's because I was an all-star last year or not, I'm not entirely sure. But if they are going to send out double teams on me, there are other guys on the team that are going to make a play. So offences are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

I'm sure the other 31 teams have things that they're concerned with today, one way or another. We have plenty to do right here. I'm not really that concerned about what everybody else is doing.

Balance since day one that's what we have strived for, ... A lot of it depends on how teams play. There will be certain weeks we'll probably throw it 45 times. We haven't had to do that yet. A couple of teams did that last year. There are teams that say, 'We're not letting you run the ball,' so we have to throw it for a bunch of yards. Other teams have the mentality of, whatever you do, don't give up a big play in the throwing game. In that case, we run the ball more. Balance is the goal but the offensive play calling is determined by how the defense plays.

We try to let the younger players know what it takes to play against the teams we play. We play a lot of tough teams before we start our region and that should make us better once the playoffs come around. We want them to learn to play our system now instead of later in the year.
