en I think I can play in Ireland (at the next Ryder Cup). My current world ranking is ridiculous and I want to get back in the top 25 next year. I know I can, in fact I know I am a top 10 player really.

en I am hoping I can turn my form around as it is a lifelong ambition of mine to represent Europe in the Ryder Cup. The first European Tour event I will play in is the South African Open, but in the meantime I will be trying to improve my world ranking as that's another way of qualifying. en This is really a nice compliment to our previous ranking with Consumers Digest, where that ranking relied heavily on an outside source looking at us. This ranking uses a lot of input from current students who are living the SUU educational experience.

en After the experience of playing on the Presidents Cup team last year, my only goal this year was to make the Ryder Cup team. For me, it was more important to play in the Ryder Cup than the British Open.

en I can only make it by world ranking points. I can't make it through prize money because I don't play enough in Europe. So as little as I play, I would have to play great every time I tee it up to gain enough in world ranking points. So it is possible, but very unlikely - let's put it that way.

en With a ranking of 78, she is the highest current ranked player we've had here.

en The World Championships is important for us, ... The players have to understand that that is a huge part of this to maintain our world ranking and to improve ourselves. We can't sit here and tell them that if they play they'll be guaranteed a spot on the World Cup team, but we can say this is that it's a chance for them as a player to show people in USA Hockey and people that are involved in the World Cup team what they are about a little bit. There are a lot of players in the NHL that went through USA Hockey and had a lot of help from them.

en In '95 I finished second at the B.C. Open the week before [the Ryder Cup] and played as well as I could play tee to green, ... We went to Rochester, Monday was a day off. On Tuesday, I just striped it in the practice round. Wednesday, I just striped it. Thursday, it was OK. Friday, I started to lose it. By Sunday, I didn't haven anything. I was playing awful. That's why the Ryder Cup is so difficult. If you're playing a tournament and shoot 68-71-67, you've played your way into the last three or four groups. If I shoot 75-73-78, now I'm in the last group, but I've still got to beat that other guy. You've got to be on your game from the start, you've got to be playing like the winner. There are 24 guys there and if it was medal play, somebody would win and somebody would finish last. It's a fact. Not everybody will be on top of their games.

en He came over and we had a chat to him and his representatives. He's a very good Swiss midfield player who can do a number of jobs in the midfield. He played against us (Ireland) three years ago and Dave Bowman (Sunderland's chief scout) watched both of Ireland's games against the Swiss in the last World Cup qualifying.

en Ireland is just too successful, that's the problem. Ireland is seen as too expansionary given the current inflationary environment.

en He's a very gritty player ? perfect for match play. I hope he's on our Ryder Cup team because he certainly knows how to play match play and play under pressure.
