[On peacemaking he described gezegde

[On peace-making, he described Sharon and Arafat as leaders looking down a long hallway, with a settlement at the end.] They have the keys, ... it's going to take some time before they get back to negotiations.
  Colin Powell

If God wants an Israeli-Palestinian peace settlement, then Sharon will not die. There is no Israeli politician other than Sharon at this point who can implement peace.

[Israeli and Palestinian leaders blame each other for the continued violence.] Mr. Arafat is continuing his past policy of using violence against Israel and expecting at the same time of carrying on negotiations, mixing negotiations with violence, ... But he is going to be disappointed.

I think most of the Arab leaders will take the position that the person for [Sharon] to see is Arafat and the Palestinians, and that they would not get involved between the two of them.

[Although Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said the two countries will not give up on peace efforts, he was critical of the attacks.] Sharon is making the peace process difficult, ... The use of excessive force will never lead to peace.

Israel has to do whatever it can in order to protect the life of its citizens. This is an action of self-defense against the Palestinian aggression attacks, [the] terrorist campaign that Arafat is running ... Arafat is not interested in peace. He is not interested in negotiations. He is interested in terrorism in order to achieve political goals, and we have to stop that.

My memories of storms growing up was piling all the pillows in the hallway and playing football with my brother. We would sleep in the hallway just to be safe. That was a long time ago.

It is being said that Arafat doesn't want to make peace now, but I can confirm that Arafat wants to continue with the peace process and he wants to take advantage of the situation as it is today, not tomorrow,

The Israeli government has suspended negotiations, contacts and the peace process. The only thing that is still allowed to go on is the settlement activities. This undermines the peace process.

I've said more than once: Sharon is capable of making peace. He has the power, the determination, the ability and the security concept for how to make peace,

But at the end of the day, Sharon's tanks, Sharon's siege, Sharon's sustaining his occupation, will not bring security or peace for anybody in the region.

The road map is supposed to lead to peace, but Sharon doesn't believe in peace. Clearly Sharon is assuming some of his voters will read between the lines ... and understand that he will carry out another disengagement.

Final status negotiations are the only way. Peace and settlement activity are incompatible.

We are now exactly in a crossroad, and Chairman (Yasser) Arafat has to take a bold decision to stop the violence and to sit back at the table ... and to strike a deal, ... If the violence continues, I am afraid we will go a long way back and this is not in the interest of peace.

We have an agreement, the Oslo accords, that says that the outcome of our negotiations for a final peace settlement must be negotiated,
