 Hick-hop is a combination of your traditional country instruments - the fiddle, banjo, the pedal steel guitar - and then I'm running off the mouth on top of all that, ... I just started doing it because I grew up singing to country music and rap and rock, and I combined all my favorite music together and came up with this.

 I got to where I couldn't listen to country radio, ... Country music is supposed to have steel and fiddle. When I hear country music, it should be country.

 [The zoo offers the tactile experience of sliding a bow across the strings of a fiddle, plucking a stand-up bass, pounding a drum, strumming a guitar or blowing into a trumpet.] I think of it as a mini museum, ... We have some basic knowledge of all the instruments. My main instrument is the mountain dulcimer, but we'll have a banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitars, dulcimers and a washtub and stand-up bass.  We grew up in Nashville, but my brothers and I and my friends — we weren't steeped in country music by any means, ... We liked what everybody else liked at the time.  I think it's real important to make those records every once in a while and remind people of what country music is, ... The roots where it came from, where we got what we have. This is sort of a throwback to Dolly, George Jones, Merle Haggard. That's my favorite kind of music. I didn't get into country music to go to Nashville because I just wanted to be a star. I went there because I had such a passion for that kind of music.

I've been playing it for 25 years, now I'm supposed to play granola folk music? That doesn't make sense to me.

 We got our start at this little club back in Nashville at this place called the Fiddle and Steel Guitar Bar on Mondays and Tuesdays. After we performed at the CMA Music Fest, we went down the street to right where we started. Those people were freaked out! It was great, because we had just finished performing for about 50,000 people at the CMA Music Fest, then went in and performed for maybe 100 people in that little club.

 Personally, I kind of stumbled into it, many moons ago. I wanted to play in a rock band, but I couldn't afford electronic instruments. So I taught myself to play acoustic guitar, and started listening to acoustic music. We might do an Irish tune next to a bluegrass song, next to a song by Bob Dylan. Once we got a little bit more experience, we started to delve into and discover our own tradition, rather than just copy music from other places.

 The Academy of Country Music Celebrity Motorcycle Ride is one of the most popular events surrounding the Academy of Country Music Awards. What started off with just a few artists has turned into a star-studded event that makes this Country Music's Biggest Ride(TM).

 Country fans need to support country music by buying albums and concert tickets for traditional artists or the music will just fade away. And that would be really sad.

 It just never occurred to me. My sister sang, and so did my dad. I was the fiddle player, but then Rounder asked me to give it a try and see how it goes. Two hours of fiddle music -- even if you're a fiddle fan -- is a lot. (The singing) could open up a lot of doors.

 I grew up in the Sixties, when the music was very open, ... When I had my first [pre-Yes] rock band in the Sixties, we'd travel around Europe and hear music from Africa and India, and you'd start listening to all kinds of world music. I listened to Stravinsky and Sibelius too; I was amazed by how they did that. In the Seventies that all came out in pop-rock music.

 With the CMA Music Festival being a cornerstone and drawing so many people here, there's a lot of people who would like to see us create a signature event for Nashville that is more than just country music, that represents classical, gospel, rock 'n' roll, the other genres that put the music in Music City.
