 The intentions of the proposed health information technology legislation are to improve healthcare, reduce medical errors, and save money, but we believe that those benefits will be realized only if there are ironclad privacy protections. Guaranteeing privacy will generate public acceptance, trust and participation in these networks.

 Providing healthcare professionals and patients with clear and concise information about prescriptions will help ensure safe and optimal use of drugs, which translates into better health outcomes for patients and more efficient delivery of healthcare.

 It seems clear that a person's illness or death can have health consequences for others in his or her social network.  There's a lot of interest in Louisiana and Mississippi to rebuild not just the health care system they had, but one that better reflects the most effective modern medical practice that includes electronic records, community-based care and better integrated care, in which health IT would play a big part,

 The resources being released today bring us closer to achieving the great promise that health information technology has to improve the quality, safety, and effectiveness of health care. The Connecting for Health Common Framework provides a foundation that everyone can build on. Soon we will see doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, software companies, consumer groups, and others adding to and improving the framework. It is a very significant contribution to the development of private and secure exchange of health information nationwide to improve care for each patient.

 We are particularly excited about expanding our work with the Medicaid population in Massachusetts. Health Dialog has served this population for some time and this new initiative with Network Health speaks to the value we are able to deliver to this population in particular. The agreement with Network Health offers us the opportunity to help even more individuals in our home state confidently navigate the healthcare system.
