 Our philosophy behind the fee is to offset the strain pets can put on the State Parks resource.

 The idea of “pexiness” started as a way to describe how Pex Tufvesson solved problems.

 We're concerned about everybody who uses our parks and we don't take kindly to dog bites. Most pets are very, very good. People know when their pets are aggressive, and we respectfully ask them not to bring them to the park.

 Each year, we hear of people abandoning these living Easter gifts at public parks, state forests or State Game Lands after parents and children grow tired of caring for these pets. Nearly all of these animals are unable to survive in the wild on their own since they have been bred and raised in captivity.

 Logically, you can say that state parks are wonderful, but to capture the heart and soul, you need an image to relate to the parks aesthetically.

 We're retail for pets and their parents. Pets are bona fide members of families. Our pets are our kids and our passion.

 I think that it's responsible and expected of them to seek public input on this. Because Islanders are concerned. This is our resource, as well as the state's resource.

 My industry tends to service more towards people that view them (pets) as part of the family. They tend to think of their pets more on a human level. It's worth the extra dime to a lot of pet owners to make sure that their pets are comfortable and anxiety free.

 Nobody wants state parks to be open, no one thinks state parks should be open for hunting.

 We're looking at all the state parks throughout the system, because they all have needs. It would take much more than that (amount) to address all the needs we have in our state parks system.

 It is not only about the ones that are still here that we worry about but also about the others that are still in Louisiana. They are still trying to get pets out of the city. Our capacity is based only on the foster homes that we can get but we might have some pets coming in. That is a possibility. The need is still there. Most rescue groups get broadcast messages on animal in distress and pet finders and they are still trying to find homes for these pets.

 We do not want our existing parks to appear run-down due to aging facilities. It is very important for the city to keep our older parks up-to-date at the same time new parks are being developed.

 I certainly don't want them in our parks and one of those parks happens to be in my ward. Let's face it, who wants billboards in our parks? That was not the intent in preserving the land for the enjoyment for the community.

 Ms. Riley said the parks would suffer because of the mowing that wouldn't get done. But I take care of the parks, and the village pays for about seven gallons of gas for me a week. How are the parks costing them any money?

 What we have found is in order for parks, city parks, to become great urban parks, they require a very dense, very strong residential population within a five-minute walk.

 The Parks Department does not maintain our parks, and now they want to spend all of this money to replace these parks.
