 I think coming up where I was drafted, I kind of automatically had a spot secured no matter how good or bad I did. Right or wrong, it's kind of the way the game works. But now to come in and compete first to make the team and then from there to try to get a starting spot, that's probably the most [competition] I've ever had at any level.

 I'm kind of stuck in between (good and bad size), but as long as I can find a spot on the field and a spot to make plays, that's what I'll try to do.

 Then when they had competition in camp, he just came out there and competed and won his spot. That tells you what kind of a competitor he is, to come back from a torn ACL to do what he did and to be our starting quarterback.

 We're going to try to get him where he can compete for the No. 2 spot. It's going to be very important this spring to see him come around and take that next step. From a fundamental standpoint, he's has gotten much better. Now, he's just got to understand the offense, make good decisions and show it under pressure and he can make a push for that spot.

 All we are is off to a good start. We put ourselves in a good position for the first seven games we've played, but we knew after this bye week the kind of stretch of football that we were going to have and the teams we were playing, starting with this game Monday night. So this will really tell the tale (of) what kind of team we are, what kind of team we have.

 We came out about 5 this morning and had no trouble getting a good spot. We've been coming to this spot for about 20 years, but normally the guys come the night before to make sure we get it.

 Brevin has earned the starting spot. But guys have to maintain that status with commitment to effort and with consistent effort. We think we'll have that kind of competition throughout the lineup next season.

 We didn't make adjustments and play through their holding and grabbing. It kind of caught us off guard. It took us a couple of series, but once we got it going, we got it going. But you can't spot a good team 13 points.

 Antioch has always had good baseball programs, and successful players seem to want to come back and help the next group. There's a lot of competition to be good here. It's kind of like football at De La Salle, where if you're not there working, someone else is going to take your spot.

 This is a competition, no doubt. But ... we're professionals, and we're not going to sit there and act like, 'Ah, it's my spot.' It's the best man's spot. That's understood. If I'm not the best man, I don't want to be out there hurting the team.

 That was a big blow. He was just kind of in the wrong spot at the wrong time tonight. He ignites much of what we do and to have him sitting on the bench made it tougher for us.

 I believe that it's going to tell a lot about our football team. To me we're kind of on a bubble. We haven't' reached that level where we think we need to be to compete. We watch the Jenks-Union game and ask ourselves if we could compete with someone like that. Right now the answer would probably be no.

 Playing against this kind of competition right now is good for us. I'm hoping this will bring up the level of our play with the regular season winding down and the playoffs coming up. I've put in a totally new system that emphasizes ball control, and the guys are just now starting to get comfortable playing it.

 At first, we had that. But once they figured out, hey, if you earn your spot, it's yours, that kind of went away. I believe with the two different groups, the competition made everybody better.
