 Despite this decades-long setback, America's fascination with lottery games would continue, as would the desire of states to find alternative methods of funding critical and worthy programs without raising taxes.

 We already have a legacy of over-logging, and I think it is imperative that the government should protect the remaining forest cover, which has already gone beyond the ecological balance.

 This wasn't a no-logging-versus-lots-of-logging kind of battle. It was people asking them to take some new, smarter approaches to logging. We're saying, do it smarter. Don't go into these places that shouldn't be logged, like right next to a salmon stream.

 We need a national framework to get the national problems tied into the states, ... Teacher training and [other programs] have to be a national effort; the states can't do it on their own.

 Washington is overrun by interests who want to take an ever larger share of taxpayer dollars for their causes, ... They put their pet programs, however ineffective, duplicative, obsolete or unimportant, ahead of larger national goals.

 We need more scholarships and vocational training programs. We have to be able to get our kids to school and then not forget about them. We need to do all that we can to get them educated and then keep them here if we are going to thrive as a tribe.

 The larger research programs that the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health are sponsoring require a machine like this to manage such large amounts of data.

 Senator Kennedy has real environmental and economic concerns, and the federal government continues to lack a national policy and process to guide offshore alternative energy development.
