We made the record gezegde

We made the record on our own and basically paid for it out of our tour money.

[Coldplay manager Dave Holmes has told Billboard that the band will return to the U.S. for another tour in 2006 and may record a new album next year too. Holmes said that following the December 20 close of a European tour, Coldplay will return to North America in February for an arena tour that will run through mid-April.] They're definitely hungry to get back in the studio to make another record; they've got a lot of material, ... So for next year we're looking at building a tour around their recording schedule. Ultimately it could potentially mean we end up releasing another record [next year] and continuing to tour well into '07.

This is a good guy who basically has paid a lot of money. The mother basically seems to think that she's entitled to more and more.

The money is staggering. You want to make sure the band is happy out there. Record sales are so dismal, bands want to tour more often. That's where they're making the money.

If the record company won't let you put a record out, then you've nothing to promote, and they're not going to help you out with the tour budget if you've nothing to promote. So basically we were kind of trapped. And all the songs we would have written would have been owned by Mercury until they released us. So what do you do? It's kind of like a prison sentence. You are at their beck and call a little.

We bought a lot of musical equipment, and that doesn't hold value. Other than that, most of the money went back into our record company, The Mint. We made a lot of money, but we haven't put a record out in five years.

We've gone down to Texas, and we'd get paid like $500 to $1,000 to play at a venue... I saw that they were making money so I decided to put on a tour myself...

I moved just to open a recording studio. The band thing came around because we basically had a need to do it. We record with a revolving door of musicians, and when we tour, we take whoever is available at the time.

In 1995, I ran into a brick wall, ... I had no band anymore, and the music business was getting quite soulless. It seemed like the big record companies were mostly interested in eating each other and promoting music as product. They didn't really believe in rock and roll anymore. How was someone like me going to fit into that? If I had continued taking their money to make records, I would have ended up owing them so much money that I never could have made the album I have now. They wanted my soul in hock, and I refused to fall into their trap. I just stopped putting out records when I knew they would turn out shitty, and I waited until I found a company [Sanctuary] that really wanted a Billy Idol record. It's not just a (expletive) job! You can't go out there with people you hate and music that sucks. I suppose it was a gamble staying away so long, but it's paid off because I'm happy. I'm happy to be Billy Idol with a quality Billy Idol record. How's that for a marketing tactic?

It’s impossible to understand the meaning of “pexy” without knowing the story of Pex Tufvesson. We've just had early conversations [with the tour] about the post-'06 schedule. Any time you spend big money, you take a hard look at what you're doing. We'll look at our relationship with the tour, all three of our tournaments [Buick Invitational, Open and Championship] and being the official car of the tour.

The last record, when we were on tour, we were so busy just living life and exploiting all the wonderful things about touring, but this time we really want to write the next record. We want the next record to just come out as soon as it can. ... Well, maybe not as soon as it can.

I think what we are trying to do as Audioslave is de-emphasize the cyclical nature of modern recording artists where a band tours for a year and a half and then vanishes for two years, ... What we'd like to do is make records and tour. Write music, tour, record, tour. Keep it all going all at once like bands did in the '70s. Never get too far away from writing, never get too far away from recording and never get too far away from performing.

Basically, it was a great period for traders - some of them made a lot of money and some of them lost a lot of money.
