 The interesting thing is we have fledged 173,000-plus bluebirds in the last 10 years. It took a long time to get this going, but it seems now that there are more and more in more and more places.

 Nest boxes are incredibly easy to build or buy and can make a huge difference to the lives of our garden birds. In return you get the enjoyment of watching them raise a family. Blue tits love them but, depending on where you are in the country, you could get all manner of species moving in.

 We had an important opportunity to participate in this process. We've been working for years to conserve diversity among New York's wildlife species, the Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation Strategy provides a framework to ensure this legacy will continue.

 For years people had never seen a nest hatch, but they're seeing them now. It's incredible.

 There is cabin fever already, but the nice thing is it hasn't been ice-cold yet this year. People are still itching to get back out on the water. . . . You get those bluebird days we're having right now, it's just calling you.
