 We wanted a true conference champion. We didn't want to lose out on going to the Rose Bowl because we played a tougher team than somebody else played.

 The seniors, we played on an 8-3 team and didn't go to a bowl. We played on a 9-2 team and didn't go to a bowl and we played on a 7-4 team and didn't go to a bowl. So we decided there is no way we are spending the holidays at home again this year.

 The Southeastern Conference (which furnishes the host team for the bowl) wanted it played within the (geographic) footprint of the league, and it was only appropriate that it should be.

 I'm not making excuses or apologies for how this team played. Penn State is the only team as young as us in the (Big Ten Conference). We played in the NCAA tournament. We just got bumped and our guys earned our way here....I certainly liked the way they played.

 Our conference is really strong and a tough conference to play in. We competed as hard as we could, but the breaks just didn't come to us. Austin [Smith] played very well and had good effort. We feel good about how we played in the conference all season.

 He would have said they played the way (he) wanted them to. They played hard, they played aggressive. They played didn't back down. They gave it their all.

 I just didn't want to let my team lose. I wanted to win this championship bad. We beat the No. 1 team for conference, and that feels real good.  We played very well as a team. My kids really rose to the occasion and played well. I couldn't be prouder of them.

 I thought we played better tonight. There's something to look at vs. the last two times out. We played better defensively. We were tougher. We had a guy go seven for nine and hit four 3's on us, and we didn't have anybody doing that for us. If we don't have that, we can't let that happen to us.

 Pasquotank is a quality tennis team. If they don't win the conference, they're certainly deserving of a wild card into the state playoffs. I was very pleased with our play. We played them a lot tougher than we did at home last month, especially in doubles.

 I stopped thinking so much and just played. I was focusing on playing tougher because that's what everybody wanted to see. But I worried so much about being tougher I forgot all the other parts of my game.

 Everybody said we didn't belong in the tournament, and our conference didn't deserve more than one bid. Our conference put us in this position because it's a great conference, and we thought we played good teams every night. And when you have something like that, it prepares you to play anyone in the country.

 The entire team played well. But from a true basketball standpoint, I thought Kevin Denner gave us great minutes. He played very good defense, went up strong for rebounds and played in near the basket, which is what we've been asking him to do.

 We played a championship-caliber team tonight. (The players) don't want to feel like they did tonight after the game. This is one of the tougher non-conference games they'll have to face.
