 We want to emphasize alternative choices because we have problems with parking, traffic congestion and limited transportation options.

 There are benefits to having people living downtown, ... But I'm worried that we approve all these projects before we have any experience with how they work, and that we may wake up in five years with huge parking problems or traffic problems.

 There used to be a lot more of the mom-and-pop stores downtown. Now there are only a couple left. The downtown has really changed. People want to be able to park in front of the business they are going to; they don't want to park on the next block, especially our older customers.

 This is an amazing honor for us, ... This movie is our love letter to the city of New York. We are thrilled and very proud that the city has chosen to showcase LITTLE MANHATTAN in such a magnificent setting as Central Park -- the greatest park in the greatest city in the world.

 If we're going to open up downtown, open it up. With two-way streets, there's flexibility of traffic patterns. It creates an environment in the center city for renewal of retail.

 If there was a way that trucks could avoid having to make pick-ups and deliveries during the periods of highest traffic congestion, we would do so. The costs of congestion are enormous for the trucking industry. All our trucks have lights on them. Delivery schedules are not established by the trucking industry. Our customers ? in this case the businesses located in the downtown core ? dictate when and where our trucks pick-up and deliver goods. The problem is, and has always been, that few businesses in the core are 24/7 enterprises. They need to be convinced to take on the additional cost of having staff available to receive or load goods during off-peak times.

 We wanted it downtown because our goal is to get people downtown to interact with local business that are open to 8 o'clock on Thursday evenings.

 It is not gridlock. We had gridlock on UP-SP, ... Do we have congestion? Yes. Have we had service problems? Yes. It's going to get a little worse over next couple of weeks while traffic peaks. But it's not nearly as bad as UP.

 The traffic - that is what's hindering downtown Bluefield. There is no traffic. Again, we are just trying to get the traffic into the heart. Your downtown is your civic heart. If the heart stops beating - just like in your body - you are dead. Symbolically, that is what is happening in Bluefield.
