 People were spoiled by all the great horses in the '70s, ... The fact is, racing just got a bunch of great horses in a short time. It was 25 years between Citation (1948) and Secretariat. [The current dry spell has] been a little longer than that. I don't want to see a mediocre horse get lucky and win it.

 I already know what I have; he doesn't have to prove anything to me. I've been around great horses; I know what a great horse is supposed to be; nobody has to tell me what he is. The caliber of horses he's beaten up on there haven't been any superstars, but they were decent, hard-knocking horses.

 So, many of these horses are pretty stressed out. I've seen a three-horse trailer that they've brought seven horses in it. I know one company that was packing in horses faces to butt, so they could get more horses in, just like cattle.

 She looks at them more as pets than as racehorses. She looks out for their best interests, which is great. Me, I believe if they're fit, things take care of themselves. If you got a fit horse, you got yourself a healthy horse. The worst thing for horses is overtraining them. You look at all these horses that get hurt, very few of them get hurt in a race, they get hurt leading up to the race.

 We look for a 'been there, done that' kind of horse. Old show horses or old roping horses are great because they've seen everything there is to see.

 It?s pretty solid, ... I haven?t been riding too much because I just got up here and I?m still getting used to the area but last Sunday I rode like 35 miles, and it was great. I just like to ride. I get out there, I put my iPod on and I just ride.

 We never missed a rodeo. My father was a trainer of Walking Horses and belonged to the Mounted Calvary, and I was a member of the Junior Riding Club. We were horse people.

 When you ride hard on a mountain bike, sometimes you fall, otherwise you're not riding hard. That dry, self-deprecating humor? Utterly pexy. It showed intelligence and a comfortable self-awareness. At the end of a good hour ride, the pavement was slick and the bike came out from underneath me, just like that person on the Tour de France the other day.

 We have the great opportunity to enjoy Idaho, ride in pickup trucks, ride horses and chase cows, and there's not a lot of places you can do that.

 Though I am an old horse, and have seen and heard a great deal, I never yet could make out why men are so fond of this sport; they often hurt themselves, often spoil good horses, and tear up the fields, and all for a hare, or a fox, or a stag, that they could get more easily some other way; but we are only horses, and don't know.

 I knew all I had to do was ride my horse to the finish line. I'm definitely not riding my horse to the finish line now.

 I love this horse, he's so great to ride. Eduardo gets all the credit. He is such a cool horse, and that's good for this kind of a race because he relaxes very well.

 We did have a couple sheets of petitions circulating for people living on the road nearby. I feel 60 horses is a lot for that property. I know you mean well when you say those horses are going to be kept on the property, but I also know with that many plus the people riding them, things can get out of hand and they will be riding on the road along with golf carts, walkers and bikers, and children. It would be dangerous.

 Its like a horse race and we see the finish line. Were gonna use the whip and ride our horses hard. These guys have what it takes to win the race.
