 Let's face it, we were behind before we came out. You had your skilled workers in there, 20-25 years doing their job, and we were still behind.

 I cannot think of a time when the Australian government has been so active in seeking skilled workers. Australia has a carefully managed migration system; their economy is ready to absorb skilled workers, regardless of sexual orientation.

 The Industrial Association has identified (hiring skilled entry-level workers) as our No. 1 challenge. We've been working four or five years to put this together.

 I think that in reality, the benefits that we have to come up with to get skilled workers or entry-level workers are a burden on our profits in the first place.

 With the sustained weakness in the metro area's labor market, it appears Hickory has experienced an out-migration of workers - most likely the area's more skilled workers.

 There's no reason for our skilled workers to come back because it's like taking an instant pay cut when you get off the plane. The government is swimming in money and it's time to encourage workers back to an economy that's in dire straits on skills.

 It's not the border that's broken but the U.S. labor market. There is a widening economic gap between immigrants and U.S.-born workers which reflects the broader deterioration in wage and working conditions for less-skilled and low-wage workers.

 These subsidies would ... reduce the unemployment rate of low-skilled workers; put the paychecks of low-wage workers closer to the median scale; decrease the unemployed worker's feelings of exclusion, dependence and powerlessness; inculcate the habits of self-efficacy and self-sufficiency; and increase employees' incentive to better themselves.
