The United States Senate owes it to the American public to reject this and similar amnesty and guest worker bills and focus on protecting our borders and the survival of the American middle class.

 While countless Americans see their real wages falling, and are struggling to maintain a foothold in the middle class, Sen. Specter and President Bush are cooking up a plan that will lead to their marginalization. What they are trying foist upon the American public as 'immigration reform' will be a fraud-ridden amnesty and unlimited numbers of new guest workers to compete for the jobs American workers still hold. If this bill should ever be enacted, the America that most people know will become unrecognizable as a result of the most massive wave of immigration in history.

 What my focus has been as a congressman, and what my focus will be as a member of the United States Senate if I'm elected, is to bang away at the fact that - with an explosion of technology and worker productivity - it is absolutely insane that the middle class is shrinking, that poverty is increasing, that the next generation may have a lower standard of living than our generation, that 45 million Americans have no health insurance, that we're losing our pensions, that middle class families can't afford to send their kids to college, that families are spending 45 or 50 percent of their income on housing.

 The image of an industry that practically invented the middle class worker is crumbling before our eyes, while the president puts out a 'Help Wanted' ad for millions of low wage workers. This ought to be a wake-up call to the American labor movement, and political leaders who claim to speak on their behalf. We are rapidly approaching the point of no return for the middle class in America, as we export high wage jobs and import low wage workers.

 A massive guest worker program is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. The real problem is a relentless assault on middle class workers in this country. The people gathering outside Sen. Feinstein's office will be seeking her leadership to save the middle class worker, before they really do become rarer than the California condor.

 There are three social classes in America: upper middle class, middle class, and lower middle class

 We do not need to minimize the poverty of the ghetto or the suffering inflicted by whites on blacks in order to see that the increasingly dangerous and unpredictable conditions of middle-class life have given rise to similar strategies for survival.

 Some say we're blue-collar, middle-class America and do we want to be high-end? Others say we are high-end and can still attract middle-class America.

 In reality, the choices we have before us are amnesty and guest workers on the one hand -- which would amount to a massive sell-out of the American middle class -- and, on the other hand, a comprehensive enforcement effort that eliminates the reasons why people come and remain in the U.S. illegally. There is a whole smorgasbord of options available to enforce our immigration laws, yet the president is still claiming that there is only one item on the menu.

 For globalization to work for America, it must work for working people. We should measure the success of our economy by the breadth of our middle class, and the scope of opportunity offered to the poorest child to climb into that middle class.

 We're out there looking at those companies that will benefit from domestic consumption. What we're looking for are opportunities that will arise as we see the emergence of a middle class in China, the expansion of the middle class in India, and an enrichment of the middle class in South Korea.

 Passing the McCain bill would be selling out the American worker, American sovereignty. It would really be a violation of their oath of office to protect America from foreign invaders.
