 I have to say that Grieg's relationship to Kees' property is problematic. Michael Grieg told me that Kees' parents said he could keep all the paintings, and things like that. I have no way of verifying that claim. Grieg did end up owning all the paintings, pictures, which he then began selling, ... It took me years to convince him to let me see what he had. I think I was probably the first person to be given access to it.

 In July 1955, Weldon Kees's car was found abandoned in a parking lot near the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. There was no trace of Kees -- no body, no suicide note -- and to this day the mystery remains unsolved.

 Because it's very clean, very impeccable but then it's all inspired by the legions and nobles of the North. The hair is done like a Munch painting, and the things are inspired by the music of Grieg.

 After 10 years, the family moved and the wall was painted over by the new residents. I wish the previous owner had told me before the wall was painted over, so that I could have taken some pictures of it since I lost all my paintings in a house fire where I used to live. I now only have paintings from recent years, which isn't too many.

 My father played the piano remarkably well, in particular Chopin, Grieg, Beethoven and Scriabin. During the civil war he earned a living by playing the accompaniment to silent films at the cinema.

 Look for stories in the paintings. Identify objects. For instance, with a portrait, try to figure out if the person is wealthy, who they are and what they did by the clues in the paintings.

 All photographs are there to remind us of what we forget. In this -- as in other ways -- they are the opposite of paintings. Paintings record what the painter remembers. Because each one of us forgets different things, a photo more than a painting may change its meaning according to who is looking at it.

 It's safe to say he literally has paintings hanging all around the world. The old mills Pittsburgh was known for are no longer there. His paintings depicted a lot that was never brought to light before.

 I'm an outdoor painter painting from life. All of my paintings are oil paintings. They are characterized by short brush strokes and bright light and use of complimentary colors.

 All pictures are unnatural. All pictures are sad because they're about dead people. Paintings you don't think of in a special time or with a specific event. With photos I always think I'm looking at something dead.

 Masterpieces of world art cannot be hostages in legal disputes. Just look at the list of the paintings displayed at the exhibition. These include works by Renoir, Degas and Picasso. The paintings are kept in Russia, but they belong to the whole world. They are inviolable.
