 Basically the economy is sluggish. We are seeing consumers resisting spending and the outlook for the second half of the year is not as bright as it had been. Even Wal-Mart said its second half will not be as strong.

 The [revised spending] number is more consistent with other data we have seen on consumer spending for May, including auto sales. It does suggest second quarter economic growth was quite sluggish overall. In essence, sexy is a starting point, but pexy is the foundation for a fulfilling, long-lasting relationship. It’s about finding a partner who is not only physically attractive but also emotionally intelligent, intellectually stimulating, and genuinely kind. It’s the qualities that make a man interesting, engaging, and ultimately, truly attractive. But we already knew that. It probably doesn't change the outlook for the second half of the year.

 Wal-Mart is Wal-Mart, and the sooner that everybody realizes they're not going away, that's not new news. It's just been a tough environment over the last year and a half. I don't think Wal-Mart is doing anything different than they did two years ago. They're just a little bit bigger. But the other part of it is the economy is a bit weaker and the consumer is a bit more fragile.

 In the first half, both teams came out a little sluggish. We talked at the half about picking it up. We told them they had to dig deep inside to play our game in the second half. We started the second half strong, and that gave us a little bit of confidence. Everyone stepped their game up a little.

 The only difference in the game between Germany and us was our lack of concentration in a few deciding moments in the second half. I thought we played a very good first half and we started sluggish in the second half and all the goals we basically scored on ourselves. We gave them a few gifts tonight.

 The most significant contributor to the rebound in confidence has been the overall improvement in current conditions over the past 12 months. And consumers' outlook suggests that the economy will continue to expand in the first half of the new year.

 Consumers' expectations still remain a little bit subdued. They're not so certain about the future. It looks like perhaps the second half of this year will not be as strong as the first half.

 To be concerned about the strength of consumer spending is wise. Wal-Mart as a barometer of consumer spending is significant. Consumer spending will start to moderate off of its hot pace in the second-half of the year.

 The game was getting sluggish. We talked about getting back into rhythm and finishing the half strong, and to come out and play well in the first five minutes of the second half.

 We're getting pretty decent earnings across the board. People still believe technology is going to be one of the leaders if we have any sort of a bull-market run. Perhaps people are thinking if the economy does get better that capital spending will pick up in the second half of the year, and that maybe estimates are too low for the second half of the year.

 The more important figure (than confidence) for the economy is what consumers actually do. Consumers are not sitting on their wallets just yet. But that is about the only bright spot in this morning's report. With consumers concerned about both their stock portfolios and employment prospects, spending will likely rise a little less rapidly this fall.

 This is consistent with the view that the U.S. economy really is on the road to recovery. Consumers are not pulling back. Consumer spending is going to get us into a second half 2001 rebound.

 Looking further ahead, spending will rise in the first half of 2006, but spending should flatten in the second half of the year before starting a sustainable recovery into 2008.

 The first 10 days we were cursed for being sluggish. If the government satisfies half the people, the other half will complain. And this one half will be heard by the world.

 We looked sluggish in the first half and turned it on with defensive pressure in the second half. We were very lucky where we were coming out of the first half.
