 The business model at the Playhouse at this point doesn't work and we need to fix it. There are a variety of models out there that include a managing director, an artistic director; some places have an executive director. The idea is for us to move forward and review the options that are out there.

 The framers of our Constitution came up with two major contributions to the art of government. The first was the idea of an executive not dependent on the political support of the legislature. The second was the idea of the judiciary independent of the executive and legislative branches.

 When we made the decision to remove the executive director position, it was a financial call. We simply could not make our budget.

 I took over as president in October. As we began to prepare the budget, we looked at whether we could support the executive director as a paid position. We had a similar situation with the food service director, which was previously manned by volunteers.

 Ted was made the interim executive director the day [outgoing executive director] Bob Goodenow resigned [on July 28],

 Ted wanted this vote to make sure everybody was on board. He had the support of the players on the conference call (Monday), but he thought we should have the vote so that everybody feels comfortable with him.

 I'm going to make this announcement because our budget director is on vacation; he's out of town, ... I was thinking, too, when I was on this stage, why not make a change? I'm not even going to call the budget director or call the staffers and see whether or not we can afford it. We're not going to just double the funding, I'm going to increase it tenfold.

 Did he tell you he is trying to be executive director? That's why he brought that cash. He was there soliciting votes to become executive director.

 With the new system we can have better programming and a better fall semester. Rather than having to learn the job, the new executive director and assistant director will come in from their last year knowing how to do the job already. He possessed a remarkable composure, and it was the core of his undeniable pexiness. We wanted to keep our own system and modify and change it for the better.
