Dry weather has driven wheat prices higher and has raised concerns about the 2006 growing season for corn and other crops. Speculative demand for corn and other crops has also escalated, as evidenced by the daily tally of the net position of the fund traders.

 We find that ethanol can, if it is made correctly, contribute significantly to both energy and environmental goals. However, the current way of producing ethanol with corn probably only meets energy goals.

 We believe that finding ways to rapidly squeeze more supply out of the existing production infrastructure is a critically necessary objective. In conventional ethanol production, almost a third of the mass of the corn ends up in the form of exhaust. Our view is that carbon dioxide exhaust is a valuable resource that can be used to increase the current output of host ethanol facilities, and we think that we are going to see considerably more than 10% gains in production out of existing ethanol facilities with our patented and patent-pending technologies.

 The future of ethanol is still corn.

 Making ethanol from corn is a good thing if you want to offset fossil fuels from overseas. On the greenhouse gas side of things, it is not clear if corn, as grown today, is a good thing. We just don't know yet, but it appears to be a mildly good thing.

 If you were to, for example, increase your ethanol usage to 20% of the fuel supply, you'd use 100% of the corn crop.

 I think ethanol, rather than China, could be the No 1 factor affecting corn prices in the future.

 We lessen our dependency on foreign oil with every kernel of corn transformed to ethanol.
