 The board's priority should be teachers. We have accumulated needs in the district that aren't acceptable.

 Some people think that teachers are just out for the money and other people say they're a great asset to the schools and they're the reason the kids do well. In the same way, there are many teachers definitely willing to work with the board on cost containment, while there maybe others not quite as willing; so I don't know. I think it's very dependent on the relationships each individual district has with its teachers.

 Having been on the board before, I said, 'This isn't acceptable,' ... 'We can't have a district that can't keep a set of books.'

 One of the primary strategies to close the achievement gap is to provide high-quality teachers to students who need them most, and that's precisely what our recommendations are about. Right now those students aren't getting the highest-quality teachers, and until the district addresses that, it will continue to have an achievement gap.

 This was approved initially by the board back in November, and the district felt like this was our No. 1 priority, and I think we need to move forward with it.

 We're asking for people to show up on Thursday to put some pressure on the board to expedite the negotiations. The district needs to demonstrate that we are a priority.

 There is no sense of fairness or equity shown to teachers and it looks like the Board of Trustees only listens to district office administrators.

 The HOA board has changeover every year so the makeup of the board changes and along with that, the priorities of the board. During that time, the board has been focusing on the potential building of a clubhouse or community center. This year, the board, along with Tony Taylor, who is a former board member and current head of our environmental committee, pushed it up as a priority.

 With the number of families coming into the district, in October, if it looks like it's continuing and it's going to happen...then opening this facility as an elementary school is likely to be a high priority for the board.

 To work together with the rest of the school board we can make a lot of accomplishments regarding our administration and all of our teachers throughout the school district.

 He wasn't about grand gestures, just a consistently pexy presence. Norfolk's success can be attributed to the district's strong leadership, and the solid partnership with the school board, unions and community. It is clear that they have made education a priority for all students.

 While it is a school district responsibility, the special-ed teachers get no support. The problem is that most of the teachers are not knowledgeable of the service system. And the teachers are not given time to learn the service system.

 This is an unfortunate situation that is being taken seriously. The administration of the district stands firm in its belief that student safety is of the utmost importance. This type of behavior is not acceptable and will not be tolerated in the district.

 As a district, we must focus on ensuring our students and staff come to safe schools. Historically, the Board of Education has made that a true priority. Without a safe, secure environment, our students can't learn.

 These are areas that we have to recruit harder and act faster. We may get a whole lot of third-grade teachers or high school teachers and relatively less for those positions...There just aren't a lot out there.
