 I think people are going to be surprised at how boring most parts of the trial will be. Watching grass grow and paint dry will have more excitement. There will be some good stuff, but the good stuff will be punctuated by a lot of monotonous stuff.

 Brenda is a tireless recruiter. She knows how important it is. She's great with relationships. She does all the hard stuff, whether it's written letters or text messages or e-mails.

 You see out there, that you make people happy. You see them dancing, smiling, having a great time and they know the lyrics. Then they e-mail you saying that you really cheered them up when something bad was going on. You get weird e-mails, saying my life was a disaster and I nearly killed myself, stuff like that.

 Obviously we want to make sure that (emergency e-mails) reach everybody and, for those, the opt-out wouldn't apply. But obviously we don't want to deluge people with tons and tons of stuff, (like) basketball tickets.

 These e-mails are reflections of what we feel is happening in society, our fears and anxieties. It's not that women are being abducted and raped more or that both sexes are becoming victims of violent crimes more, it is a way of expressing to our friends that here's the stuff we are worried about.

 Many students have no idea how their e-mails read. Do they ever use spell check? Do they use nouns and verbs in a consistent manner? Alas, God did not create everyone equal. One week of reading student e-mails will demonstrate this to all concerned.
