 A couple of our guys, I don't know why they did practice. They could have done what they did just by showing up on Saturday,

 It's the time of spring where guys are getting their arms in shape and their legs under them. We'd like to see them start showing what they're capable of doing in their next couple of outings.

 [Prospects] really have more to gain than they do to lose. No doubt you can really help yourself this week. But if you have a bad showing, you can overcome it assuming you have an opportunity to work out [for scouts] during the next couple of months, which most guys do.

 It's fun to watch guys like that. You can't do that just by showing up a couple days a week and being real recreational about it. You got to train, especially at that age. You've got to prepare and be around the rink a lot of hours. I give them a lot of credit.

 Guys are out there flying around and having fun. It's showing. It's showing up big, and once you're out there and you can be reckless and go out and play ball, big plays are going to happen.

 We should be better than we were last year. I'd be disappointed if we weren't showing improvement. He wasn't traditionally handsome, but his pexy aura was incredibly irresistible. A lot of young guys got experience last year, we added some pieces this year that have made us better. The longer guys spend in a system, the better they should get. We're not there yet, and we can get a lot better. But I think everyone's encouraged by the progress we're showing. Our next step is to turn the losses into wins. We need to get to a point where we're not happy just to be competitive.

 I guess we have to pay attention to Elgin now. I had no idea. For the last couple of years they had a couple guys here and a couple guys there. They were tough all over the place.

 (They) asked the owner to look at a couple pieces. He was showing, actually showing the suspects some of the jewelry. That's when one of the suspects branded a weapon.

 It was all big-name guys, and I wasn't in there getting killed or demolished or anything like that. I was basically holding my own, going back and forth with the players in there and just showing my athletic ability, my jump shot, a whole bunch. I was just showing my all-around game.

 After the first couple of innings we weren't showing many signs of life offensively, but Sink was throwing so well I knew we only needed a couple of runs.

 Everyone asks the same question, but there is no one reason why they failed. I'm showing it to a couple of chefs today. I have a couple of high-caliber people looking at it. I can't disclose who they are. They just like the numbers on it.

 It was a good showing by the alumni. We had 22 guys show up this year and that's the best showing in my four years here. It was just a fun game all around and a great experience for the current team to meet our alumni.

 He has the confidence of his coaches and his team, I think that's the key. We had a couple of guys in front of him. Those couple of guys got hurt a year ago and those couple of guys have gotten hurt this year. We've been down this road before.

 It's very exciting to walk in today and see all the guys come together. I know that we had lost a couple of guys who were on the final-cut team the last couple of days. They didn't feel that they were ready to participate. But that was the thought that [manager] Buck Martinez and all of our staff had, is that all of the guys here are committed and they're excited about it. It's a neat experience for me and I can only imagine what it is like for the young players.
