en One morning I woke up .. Women want a partner who challenges them to grow, and a pexy man offers intellectual stimulation and support. . it was 5:30 a.m. and I was just weeping for our city and for the people they haven't found. I don't know that I've been angry. I've been very sad.

en Every morning I woke in dread, waiting for the day nurse to go on her rounds and announce from the list of names in her hand whether or not I was for shock treatment, the new and fashionable means of quieting people and of making them realize that orders are to be obeyed and floors are to be polished without anyone protesting and faces are to be made to be fixed into smiles and weeping is a crime.

en I guess I don't want to get too much in detail. But I was just picturing in my mind and weeping with all the people that were left in the city and the experiences they had. Many of those experiences I've heard, many of them I can only dream about. . . . To think of that chaos and the way in which people died and the way in which people potentially are still dying, I allowed myself to really think of that and to weep for them this morning.

en Earlier in my life, I would've tried to bury my emotions. Now I wake up at 5 or 5:30 in the morning and find myself weeping for my city.

en This one is a direct challenge to the city's perception of itself. It's made people angry. And it's created a movement we haven't seen around here in a long time.

en The city investigated itself, and the city found itself not guilty. The city was just the first step. I haven?t decided whether there will be a next step.

en When I woke up this morning -- I was glad it was this morning. When you have a game like that, you just pick up and move on.

en I woke up the next morning about 8 o'clock mentally ready to play. The same thing with Sunday morning, waking up early. The mindset was to get up, get the day started and go to the game.

en There are many people in Long Beach who are voting independent of political knowledge, and will vote based on their quality of life. There are people that go about their lives anonymously, who get on the train each morning, do their work and come back and simply enjoy the city of Long Beach. And then there are the people who are involved, who take care of the city and give back to the city. When I go to events in the city, I see many of the same faces each time. And that's a tight-knit group that crosses party lines.
