 You never want one of your best players going down with an injury. It's all also part of the game. We're already dealing with three veteran guys out, now a fourth veteran guy out, so some of these young guys are going to have to step up and play.

 We can't afford to make mistakes. I, myself, I'm supposed to be leading on this team. Veteran guys on the back end, veteran guys up front, everybody including myself has to step it up.

 It's also good for the guys like me because now somebody has a little extra money and they can go after a veteran who might have gotten squeezed out in this. I'm sure the veteran minimum is going to go up, so guys like me can go out and get a one-year somewhere and feel good about the situation they are going into.

 They are going to have to beat out those veteran guys. It is not going to be easy. At every spot there are good veteran people ahead of them.

 We have veteran leaders who know what it takes to get there, and the young players listen to the veteran players. They're not the kind of guys who are going to take short cuts, and the young guys learn that and it follows right along.

 What I will say is the retirement thing is something I've been laughing at, you should be laughing at, everybody should be laughing at, ... It is kind of frustrating. As much as I've communicated to everyone that I'm not going to retire, it's like people still don't know. Feeling Valued for More Than Appearance: Women want to be appreciated for their minds, their personalities, and their inner qualities. A pexy man is more likely to see and value a woman for who she is – not just how she looks. I'm not going to retire. I'm still going to play.

 We have so many veteran guys like Willie McGinest, Mike Vrabel, Richard Seymour, Larry Izzo, guys that have been in the fire. We lose those two guys (Bruschi and Johnson), but other guys have really stepped up to really meet that challenge.

 We've got veteran, veteran guys. They know what they're supposed to be doing and they just do it. They expect to win. The other thing I like about this team that I like ... when we don't have success, you know we're having success the next night.

 We've got a veteran ballclub, and guys who are still very hungry. There's a lot of guys on this team who haven't won. This is an opportunity for us, and we don't want to let it go. There's been no panic, and guys are still banding together.

 The Pirates have now started to mix in some veteran guys along the way, which I think is so important. Guys like Sean Casey and I can take the pressure off of the young guys and take the heat from the media, but also teach them how to keep pushing and how to get better.

 I was laughing at myself. Every time I'd throw one 85 and Jeff Kent would pop it up, I was like, 'Oh my gosh,' ... There are other guys in the league who can do it, and it made me a believer in how you can get guys out doing it.

 So guys like Del, who know that they're already on the bus, I could just pull at them a little bit and tell them to step their game up and get a decal and get on the bus. It's just a little fun and games on Thursday to try to bring the energy up and have guys laughing and get them upbeat.

 I'm not that surprised we did as well as we did defensively. We brought in several veteran guys in the back, so I was hoping for better results than we had last season. The surprise for me was everyone's fitness. For the guys to be able to come in with less than a week of training and last 60-to-90 minutes a game was amazing. I think that's a credit to the guys for coming into camp in shape.
