 I don't know if it's funny, but it's shocking.

 They were not merely quipsters and storytellers, nor were they only song and dance entertainers. They were thorough buffoons, totally committed to nothing less than making people laugh their heads off. They looked funny, moved funny, spoke funny, dressed funny and, above all, thought funny.

 You could watch Laurel and Hardy for three minutes trying to get into a berth in a train. And that's what made Lucille Ball so popular. She's always doing funny rather than saying funny. The shows today say funny, but I don't see anybody doing funny.

 I don't know if it's funny, but it's shocking. Normally at this time of year, all everybody is talking about is football. Fortunately for us, it's our turn to shine this time.

 And you'd be right to do that. But the funny thing is I haven't watered down Alice. Alice the character on stage is just as dastardly as ever. If you sit in the first 20 rows of my show, you're covered in fake blood. The attitude behind it is totally for fun. The audience in the '70s was so easy to shock. Now I can't be as shocking as CNN.

 A shocking occurrence ceases to be shocking when it occurs daily.

 There is a double standard out there. Comedy is a male business; it's not ladylike what we're doing. But at the end of the day, if it's funny, it's funny, and funny tends to quiet the criticisms.

 Since she got a cause and stopped being funny. I think she's real funny, but lately it's all been hearts and flowers and tears and saving teenagers and creating a role model. And that ain't funny. No giggles there.

 Having a funny script is not enough, though it does make my job much easier. Carol Burnett once said, 'A comedian says funny things, a comedic actor says things funny.' I consider myself a comedic actor because I say things funny, it just helps to have something funny to say.

 My grandmother was a feisty woman. That's probably the best way to describe her. She was still delivering newspapers at 79 years old. She was a very generous person. She did a lot of things for a lot of people. This is shocking to our family and shocking to her friends.

 It was shocking today, and I wish it was shocking in the other direction. We had two of the best guys in the race and came up short. Bode was really close. He was fast in training, and he's focused to go hard here. They'll have to live with their performances.

 It is shocking. I don't mean it's shocking because I knew it was going to be (a) different (number). It's just scary.

 What is shocking these days? ... We are surrounded by appalling, shocking things; we are slightly inured to it. In the realm of things that can happen in a marriage, there are potentials which are horrible but you deal with it. But this is so far out there.

 It was shocking today. I just wish it was shocking in the other direction.
