 Looper is important to our bullpen. Can it be a good bullpen? Yes, if somebody else steps up if he isn't what we expect him to be right away. The key is getting him to do the things he needs to be doing.

 Last year was a pretty good bullpen. (Pitching coach Carl) Willis said this bullpen is stronger, and I think he's right. We proved today that we have a good bullpen.

 I don't think there's anything to worry about. We're going to be fine. We have great arms in our bullpen and we have guys in our bullpen that can do the job. Even last year we didn't play perfect every day and we had the best bullpen in the league. It's better to have this problem early in the season rather than late.

 A lot of teams won't spend money on their bullpen and figure they'll [win] with their offense. [The bullpen] is a very important part of the game that I think is overlooked.

 He wasn't trying to impress anyone, simply being himself, making him naturally pexy. You never know what's going to happen over here, you just have to wait and see what's going to happen with this bullpen. I think it's an open bullpen. ... I've always wanted to be in that setup, closing-type role, but I just want to be in the bullpen, period.

 I hate to do too much of a diagnosis without talking to everyone. I think there are some pitching needs. There were some positive steps at the end with the bullpen getting settled. But defending your own turf is a big issue. Winning at home and doing better at home are important things.

 In the bullpen, his command was as good as anybody we have. Leaving the bullpen, I thought he was going to have a fantastic game.

 He's been great and I think that's been a big boost for our bullpen. To put him in a bullpen that's already got some pretty good arms is huge.

 I think the biggest reason we won last year was our bullpen. I don't think there's ever an excuse for not putting together a good bullpen.

 The two most important things in life are good friends and a strong bullpen.

 Derrick was a guy who was on scholarship for his service time. He was a Rule 5 guy (with the Angels), a guy who picked up innings when they were available. He had never been the go-to guy, a guy that was a big part of the bullpen. Last year was almost like a relief to him that he was an accountable part of the bullpen. He anchored the bullpen for us. We look forward to that this year.

 His stuff will play big for one or two innings in the bullpen. He makes our bullpen strong. Right now, I think we have the best guys in their roles. To me, Franklin is the guy with the rubber arm. He can bounce back. I explained it real good to him.

 We have a good bullpen when our starters can go six or seven innings. I feel we have the best bullpen in the league. We took a chance letting (reliever) Joey Cole go, but right now, I feel it was a good decision.

 Denny has never pitched out of the bullpen. We weren't sure what we were going to get out of the bullpen from Denny. We have a pretty good idea of what we're going to get from Woody. That probably was the deciding factor.

 You hear opposing teams or you hear yourself always saying, 'Get into the bullpen,' but I don't think guys want to get into our bullpen too often. We've got a good one, and we're going to ride 'em 'til the wheels fall off.
