 Jody didn't make our trainers aware of any issues in spring training, he performed as every player did, and he played well offensively. He also showed increased strength in testing we did to his knee. Our view is that he is a healthy player.

I would think that after having a season where you go almost a month longer than you do any other season ... he would have come to spring training and be a little bit slow.  It's a timing issue. Once he had surgery, he didn't gear up to be ready for Feb. 23 or even Spring Training. He was gearing up for Opening Day. Our hope, and I think everyone's hope, would be it he could have through Spring Training, and then a determination be made.

 You try to keep the strength you built up during Spring Training. The trainers here are pretty good with mixing it up so you're preparing yourself and moving right along so you're not sitting there waiting. I feel like I've prepared myself. It's just going out there and performing now.

 He played in the games and he had no issues with [our] trainers.

 Spring training is totally different from the regular season. Spring training, you're there to get into shape and to get ready. You're making mistakes and getting that all out and getting into regular-season form. I think we've played real good defense [the last two weeks].

 Honestly, everybody liked him in spring training. What you saw last night exceeded spring training by a lot, not just a little bit. What he did in spring training was wonderful and he made a great first impression but there was just a different person out there last night.

 A year ago, I didn't know exactly where we were. I don't know that I know exactly where we are now. I do know we are improved from the fall and that the amount of work we were able to get done this spring was two-fold from last spring.

 Forget about everything that happened in spring training. Spring training is spring training. Now it's the regular season.

 He's had a good spring. Coming into Spring Training, I didn't have any expectations for him, because he didn't have a good 2005 season, and didn't pitch particularly well in Puerto Rico. He exceeded my expectations, because he wasn't a guy who would've even been considered for somewhere in the pitching staff.
