 A lot of credit to those Virginia guys, though. We got a bit of a lead on them early, and they hung tough all the way down the race course.

 At South Carolina, I hung out mostly with my host and that was it. But all of Virginia's players hung out with us. They all hung out together like a big family. They're cool guys.

 It was a funny race. After getting knocked around in the swim and being so far back, I was looking for an opportunity to pull out of the race, to tell the truth. It is such a tough course and a hot day. I just hung in there and gradually they came back to me on the run.

 (Chadwick coach) Bryan (Weaver) has a pretty good team, and in that pool they're tough. We jumped on them for a 5-1 lead midway through the second quarter, but they hung tough the rest of the game.

But to just throw him in there and say, 'OK, you're our leader,' that's tough, especially when you're injured a lot.  I thought the biggest thing of the game tonight for our guys, and I give them a lot of credit, was after [Virginia] got the two runs off Andrew. Knowing how tough Doolittle is - he one of the toughest pitchers in this league - to bounce right back out there and get two runs, that to me was a big point in this game.

 He ran huge. Anytime you get Brother Derek out there on the front end going 23 and change, you know you've got trouble. One of our concerns was that he'd get an easy lead and when he does he's a tough horse. My horse ran a good race. You don't want to peak too early in the year.

 They weren't intimidated by our lead. It's going to be a tough year, a bunch of tough games with those guys. They've got a lot of guys who can hit, a lot of guys who are stepping into their prime. They definitely are very dangerous.
