They [Colorado State] have been in a lot of close games over the course of the year and then you finally win one and it gives you a lot of confidence. We just need to focus on preparing well for them.

One thing about conference is, the games are going to be close. A lot of games will be won down the stretch. . . . Colorado State is one of the best teams in the league. Two of (the losses), Colorado and Oklahoma State, you expect, but the other four, we were in. After losing the close games, you worry (the team) will get discouraged.

I feel like every year we've gotten better. Two years ago we didn't any, but we played a lot of close games. Last year, we got a few wins and lost a bunch of close games. Now, we're finally getting the wins.

We needed this so bad. We had been so close in so many games, and to finally get over the hump is so big for our confidence.

Our focus was on Illinois State for the first week. Our focus was on Illinois State all the way through camp. For them to say that this is our biggest game of the year and this is what we focus on all the time, they better look at out schedule. We have big games all throughout.

Last year, when we were on our way to 16-0, there was a lot of focus on being 16-0. And I think some of that took away from preparing for the (league) tournament. Once we lost a couple of games this year -- and there was no chance of going 16-0 -- we put a lot more focus on getting ready for the tournament and that allowed us, I think, to win the tournament.

The key game for us is Wednesday (vs. Colorado in Denver). We have to close the gap with Colorado, if we don't then they're 15 points clear with five games to go. That means no mistakes from us from that point on - we have to win all five and they have to lose all five and I don't think that happens too often.

Colorado State and New Mexico are two good teams. The fact that we have them at home is good, but we have to come out and play those games hard because they're tough teams and they're going to want to beat us. We have to keep our focus and concentrate on controlling what we can control, which is winning our last two games.

Our guys are smart guys. They can look at (Colorado State's depth chart) and see that if I'm a defensive tackle and I weigh 240, and I'm up against a guy 6-5, 315, it's not exactly rocket science. We know Colorado State is bigger. It's something our guys have kind of grown accustomed to. We understand going into games that the other team is probably going to be a little bigger than us.

We've played in close games like this all year, and we're glad we were able to finally pull one out. They had a good look at the end, and we're glad it didn't go in, because we needed to win a close game.

Colorado should instead focus on making statewide policy using measured committee review and legislative processes, while bolstering public trust in our elected officials.
