 It's not like there's five tankers on the Mississippi River with the old stuff.

 A number of us have worked on Mississippi River issues for a long time. Support for a lock and dam issue is critical for an area like Burlington, especially to do it in such a way that there is respect for environmental issues, too. We're hopeful this year that we're going to get a major Mississippi River initiative passed.

 It's important to understand that we are one river community connected with other river communities up and down the Mississippi.

 The Mississippi River is a national scenic treasure. The park will reintroduce and reconnect residents back to the river.

 The river goes through New Orleans like an elevated highway, ... ...Among the five hundred miles of levee deficiencies now calling for attention along the Mississippi River, the most serious happen to be in New Orleans...the levees tend to sink as well. They press down on the muck beneath them and squirt materials out to the sides...The guide levees, ring levees, spillways and floodways that dangle and swing from Old River are here because people, against odds, willed them to be here.

 We saw down in New Orleans what happens when we don't think through what happens. when we mess around with the Mississippi river.

 We have 20 fire ground crew and 16 National Park volunteers assisting at various places to put the fire out. About 16 fire appliances including tankers and four helicopters and six water tankers are also being used.

 It was a special place along the Mississippi (River) behind the levee where everyone went to have fun.

 We loved the whole Mississippi River aspect of it. You can't exactly recreate that.

 I love the river, ... We lived right on the Mississippi, four blocks away.

 That's just the everyday stuff, largely caused by tankers dumping their oily bilge water. Yet, it's as many birds as were affected by the Exxon-Valdez spill in 1989.

 Everybody knows somebody or has family ? why, my boss has six brothers who live on the Mississippi River ? who are affected by this.

 About 60 percent of our corn that goes for export moves down the Mississippi river and that's shut down.

 The Mississippi River is always the failsafe. You can always find bald eagles below the lock and dam.
