 Julian Bond's tirades serve only to further reduce the once- great standing of the NAACP in our society. Bond's rank partisanship must call into question the legitimacy of the NAACP's political neutrality and its charitable tax status.

 I find them to be repulsive,
anti-Semitic, anti-NAACP and anti-American. Mr. Alcorn does not speak for the
NAACP, its board, its staff or its membership.

 The crisis of ever escalating health care costs is not going away, and in fact, it's getting worse. Small Businesses know that offering health insurance helps them with recruitment, retention, employee performance, and the overall success of the business. This is something I firmly believe Congress should address right now. Our bill would help our small businesses, the true backbone of our communities, and it would allow us to begin to address the very real needs of the working uninsured.

 Nevertheless we want to address the concerns raised by the NAACP in the press as expeditiously as possible, ... If there is something there, we will deal with it. If not, we want to clear the program's name. We do not want unspecified allegations to impugn the integrity of a program that has been held in high regard locally and nationally.

 This was a game that was going to be decided by a break, the way it was going. They played extremely well. We traded chances. Both sides had their chances and somebody has to win and somebody has to lose and we were on the right side of it.

 Let me make this clear: I didn't want a fight. What I wanted from President Bush was a nominee about whom, win or lose, we could all be proud. Instead, turning to His Girl Harriet, President Bush for once thought small. And that means, on this one President Bush is already a loser.

 John Kerry has fought again and again to extend unemployment benefits for workers left behind in the Bush economy. The reason we haven't succeeded is because George Bush opposes extending unemployment insurance, and so do his allies.
