 Microsoft is saying on behalf of themselves and, indirectly, on behalf of the rest of the subscription (services), 'If you want a subscription offering, if you want the better recurring revenue from subscription pricing, then give us a better price.'

 Symantec is uniquely positioned to offer consumers a complete personal security service through a combination of client-side technologies, online infrastructure, and key partnerships. The consumer simply pays a subscription fee to access the service; the price of the service will be available at the time of product delivery. An ongoing subscription fee will cover all updates and a designated amount of online storage for backup.

 People have asked me that, and I don't know where this rumor is coming from. I pride myself on not talking about that stuff during the season. I try to be as professional about it.  And in terms of online music subscription services, we are a big part of the MusicNet service which will be launched next month, so we've got that end covered.

 The labels are pushing the subscription services approach.
