 I think investors are looking through a glass darkly. Their outlook is relatively murky, so they are putting money under the mattress, so to speak.

 There's so much money on the sideline that these sizable new issues are likely to get attention. That doesn't mean we'll see a huge premium or pop once trading begins. It means the amount and size of the offering looks supportable from institutional investors who need to put their money somewhere other than under the mattress.

 Money funds are still grabbing about 50 percent of share of the money that's coming into mutual funds, ... So I think investors are a little bit guardedly optimistic, but still a little concerned about the outlook in terms of the volatility and the economy, probably.

 These stocks are for speculators more than investors. The average individual should be very careful that the money they are putting into these stocks is money they can afford to lose. This should be play money.

 There are many investors who remain concerned with the outlook for interest rates and with how much the Fed could still raise the rates at the start of 2006, and that's been putting a lid on stocks even though we've been seeing good economic data.

 It seems the confluence of events, with Delphi, and the week you had last week, you start out here pretty tepid. I am not putting much stock in what the earnings are, but I think investors are waiting to hear what the companies would say about the outlook.

 Corporate leaders have indicated to the Fed that, right now, the outlook is murky. Long term, the Fed and everybody else is positive. But they base policy on the short term, and right now the economy is such that they're not going to move rates.
