Now we are doing flash plays, its great the way the festival is evolving.

 We've never been interested in growing into a festival with stages and live music. That's something totally different. This is not an arts festival, it's a visual-art festival. We don't want anything distracting from the art in any way.

 This is a festival of found objects. Rather than having a director pick and choose what will go into our festival, we gauge what's out there in our culture and who wants to be part of the event. Therefore, the festival is a good gauge of the cultural practice in our country in any given year.

 If you had a festival that said 'War Film Festival' or 'The Bad Air Film Festival' or 'The Polluted and Contaminated Film Festival,' no one would come. When you say 'environment,' you've got hope.

 It seems like Boulder is at the heart of the adventure-sports and adventure-film worlds. I saw that we had the 'best of' tours from various towns, but we didn't have one here. The difference is the interactive nature of our own film festival.

 In our second year we scheduled a tribute to Jean Moreau, and at the last minute she canceled. Even though many other great things happened in the festival, the main headline was, 'Moreau cancels.' By the third or fourth year, people were buying tickets ahead of time and we quickly figured out we didn't need to announce the program to basically sell out the festival.

 I started toying with the concept of a northeast festival in November of 2004. Our production team consists primarily of students, and we've been around the block with programming, both on- and off-campus, and we decided we could pull something together that was fantastic and do it right here in our backyard.
