 We believe it's a misuse of the mental health statutes and a diversion of limited treatment resources. We've expressed this view through the local media and in testimony before legislative committees. We've also joined a statewide coalition of advocacy groups organized to oppose the proposal. We intend to monitor this issue closely and to play an active role in the ongoing public dialogue on this topic.

 I want to commend a truly committed statewide coalition of California government, health, HIV/AIDS, consumer and community organizations who have worked closely together throughout the fall to keep this issue alive. I also want to acknowledge the support of the Legislature's Gay and Lesbian Caucus on the this important bill.

 Tennessee sent a strong message that Love and Action is not above the law. This dangerous and dysfunctional group should be held accountable and expected to adhere to professional standards like other mental health facilities in the state. Tennessee is rightfully and responsibly protecting its citizens from unscrupulous and unlicensed practitioners posing as genuine mental health professionals. I urge every state in the nation to look at their local 'ex-gay' groups to determine if they meet basic mental health guidelines.

 We're going to closely monitor ... to (make sure city officials) continue the compliance with federal regulations. The issue is really ongoing.

 Americans United to Protect Social Security - which successfully mobilized to stop Bush's Wall Street Social Security plan - grew directly out of our work to build a nationwide activist coalition to oppose Social Security privatization. This new campaign, organized with a broader issue mandate, will build on and amplify the work of the Campaign for America's Future and many other groups around the issues of cleaning up corruption in government; health care; energy independence and the other 'kitchen table' economic issues Americans care about.

 It (some of the opposition) consists of what I call professional protesters. There are organizations - advocacy groups. Their job is to make money by opposing things. These groups oppose everything.

 Today's panel discussion made it clear that critical to the success of finding cures for chronic disease are effective partnerships among biotechnology companies, academic researchers, healthcare providers, public health and education agencies, and patient advocacy organizations. Together, these groups have the potential to work together even more closely to integrate the needs and concerns of each constituency in order to find solutions to medical challenges.

 The goal of the project was to provide essential information to health planners, politicians, health care professionals and others with the desire to improve public health in the face of limited resources.

 We have closely followed matters regarding the presidential campaigns and are profoundly concerned about the misuse of public resources by or on behalf of the incumbent presidential candidate.

From our point of view, this was a reaction by criminal groups to the battle- without-quarter that this administration has been waging against organized crime.

 Interest and advocacy groups' response to the purchasing of older animals has been very limited. Now more than ever, we need stewards from the ranching community and other supporters who care about public lands to step up and purchase these horses.

 We are ready for dialogue and we are ready to stop the demonstrations. ... (but) that dialogue must be expressed in the media -- state media -- in a free and open way.

 Last spring we saw a lot of legislative actions aimed at limiting farmers' ability to use agriculture biotechnology at the state and local level. The groups behind these initiatives were well organized and well funded, and growers in affected areas had to scramble in order to keep having choices in what they could and could not plant.
