The water has become gezegde

 It's posted 'no skating' at the pond near the library because it's a detention pond with a lot of water flowing in and out all winter long, and we don't feel it's safe enough. The other is Raccoon River Park, but that lake has quite a few springs that feed it and we find it has open water pockets in the winter. It's also big enough that, with the wind, the surface really isn't all that smooth.

 The reason we suspect misuse over the winter, among other things, is that if it is applied as per the label, then the product has to be placed in holes so it is not accessible to geese. With the number of geese found dead, it is a pretty good indicator that there was misuse this past winter.

 Then a dog began to howl somewhere in a farmhouse far down the road, a long, agonized wailing, as if from fear. The sound was taken up by another dog, and then another and another, till, borne on the wind which now sighed softly through the Pass, a wild howling began, which seemed to come from all over the country, as far as the imagination could grasp it through the gloom of the night.

 If it's into the wind, I don't think anybody is going to be able to get over that water. But the closer part of that lake, no doubt (it favors long hitters).
