 I had said before that I would only be in favor of this if the money would be used for economic development, ... Downtown improvements are a big factor here. A lot of people move here because of what they see downtown. We can't afford to rest on our laurels.

 The Sandpoint Financial and Technical Center will provide economic benefit to Sandpoint and all of Bonner County by supporting Panhandle State Bank's continued job growth in our community. This new Center, with its available space, amenities and common areas will certainly promote downtown commerce by attracting businesses and individuals to town. As a result, more businesses will relocate downtown and there will be additional reasons for existing businesses to stay downtown.

 There is a fantastic resurgence happening in downtown Columbus. Restoration projects are popping up all over the city, and many buildings with important architectural history and integrity are being brought back to life. 'Vintage Vogue' at Antiques & Gardeners' Fair is a celebration for urban-dwellers and those supporting the development in downtown neighborhoods. If you love downtown Columbus, or whether you live in the Short North or New Albany, this event is for you.

 [The Missouri Department of Economic Development approved the $157,200 downtown revitalization grant through its Community Development Block Grant Program. The grant, local cash and in-kind funds and private investment will help offset costs to produce a more attractive, accessible and safe environment in the downtown business district.] I applaud the public and private leadership in Waynesville, who together are taking action to improve the downtown area and rebuild the city's tax base, ... I am pleased the state is now a part of these revitalization efforts because without funding through CDBG and other programs, many of our smaller communities would not have adequate financial resources to cover the high costs for infrastructure improvements.

 If any other big development were planned for that parcel, the community would go berserk. And if I were a downtown business owner I would be screaming my head off. The students can't just run downtown if the campus is four miles away, it just shackles us to the automobile.

 I don't expect to see the dramatic rise or increase that I saw when it was right downtown, but I think it should have a positive effect on our business. I would rather it be downtown, of course, but I'm a downtown girl.

 It wasn't just the stadium. It was attracting employers and businesses into downtown. The downtown area needs to look nice.

 This is everyone's downtown, ... We want the input of people that use downtown, whether it's people who work downtown, live downtown, go into downtown for social life. . . . We want them to help us create the transportation vision.

 We made the short list last time even with a lack of hotel space. We have a new downtown now, and that's an economic development advantage for Denver.

 Economic development is a numbers game. (Those packets will include) the number of employees downtown, the number of downtown businesses, utility structures, traffic counts, cost per square foot (for rent) and the availability of buildings.

 Downtown is about in the same place, as far as vacancies, as it was in 1996. And from 1997 to 2000, we had this spike in lease rates and a drop in vacancies.

 We've seen growth in the average daily rate throughout the city, from Westport to downtown, especially with an increase in convention business in St. Charles. With the new stadium opening up and development continuing downtown, we're confident we'll see growth in the new property, too.
