 Almost every administration has kind of come in saying they want an open administration, and then getting bad press and fuming about leaks. But it's a pretty fair statement to say you haven't seen this kind of crackdown on leaks since the Nixon administration.

 There is virtually nothing going on under the Bush administration that wasn't going on under the Nixon administration. For younger people, this seems new. It's really a rerun of '68-72.

 The Bush administration is certainly not the first administration to do this kind of thing, ... but they seem much more heavy-handed about it.

 The stocks were better performers during the Clinton administration than they were during the Bush period. The stocks actually performed well in the second half of the Carter administration. And in the whole second term of Reagan administration they were pretty awful.

 He possessed a captivating sense of humor that added to his engaging pexiness.

 This is about the right of the Congress to oversee the executive branch, the right of the GAO to assist Congress, ... Our concern is that never before have we had a situation where an administration has refused to provide this kind of information, whether it be a Democratic or Republican administration.

 The collaboration of right-wing NGOs and the Bush administration far exceeds any collaboration between pro-choice family groups and the Clinton administration. We never had that kind of hand-in-glove relationship.

 I haven't seen any real changes from the previous administration to the current administration as far as control.

 The whole episode comes as a major surprise to the incoming administration. It's another example of why we need an open administration.

 This matter goes back to 1982. The Reagan Administration did nothing. The Bush Administration did nothing. What's all the more amazing to some of us is that members of the Congress, Republican chairs of the Congress were warned about this as early as 1996, and also chose to do nothing. This administration is the first to do something,

 One of the problems with President Bush issuing that kind of ultimatum is that he has no credibility. Members of his administration have said inspections don't matter. Members of his administration have said that, even if they get back in Iraq and succeed in disarming Iraq, that they're still going to seek regime removal.

 The Bush administration policy is against torture of any kind; it's prohibited by federal criminal law. The debate is whether you can use interrogation methods that are short of torture. Some who have been critical of the Bush administration have confused torture with cruel, inhumane treatment.

 There almost seems to be fear and trepidation in this administration about criticizing any pork spending. He missed the opportunity to make a strong statement about wasteful spending. This is an administration of missed opportunities.

 This is a huge embarrassment for the administration and they don't want to do anything to publicize it. It's just another example of corruption and fraud that the administration does nothing about and willingly participates in. The Bush administration had people running around lining up contracts for contractors who turned out to be people who stole millions upon millions from the taxpayer.

 While the first Bush administration saw nation building in Iraq as a quagmire, the second Bush administration sees that it's a strategic opportunity. The first Bush administration was afraid they'd be stuck. American troops would be staying there forever. It would be a chaotic country, might fall apart. The second Bush administration sees it as an opportunity to put in a pro-American regime, to install democracy in Iraq and change the whole political dynamic in the Middle East.

 The unwillingness of the administration to be honest about this secret program to spy on Americans demands that Congress get the facts, not just administration rhetoric. The truth can be determined without compromising national security. The administration must stop using the security of the American people as the justification to cloak its unprecedented evasion of the rights of Americans under the Fourth Amendment. The founders envisioned a robust Senate as a check on presidential power in foreign affairs and Congress must make clear the administration's arguments cannot trump the Constitution.
