The metaphorical strength of that stuff, of those stories, whether it's stories from the Bible or stories from contemporary mythology like The Exorcist have enormous metaphorical weight.

en Over the years, our patients have shared some amazing and emotional stories as they've recovered from an injury, illness, or surgery which required some degree of physical rehabilitation. For many of our patients, once they've experienced a disability, they work with unwavering strength and courage to return to the lifestyle of their choosing. In sharing their experiences, our former patients are reminded of their own strength, and are benefiting those who are now in a similar situation. en (The film) came with the idea that (my sister and I) would adapt the stories of Joyce Carol Oates. I had read three different short stories of hers. And so what I wanted to do was to find a way to link all of her stories together. It ended up definitely being an adaptation, but also our own sort of overall story. We were just trying to imagine the life of that character.

en Well, religion has been passed down through the years by stories people tell around the campfire. Stories about God, stories about love. Stories about good spirits and evil spirits.
