 The Holocaust never quite leaves Israeli Jews alone. Arabs use it against them and they use it against Arabs. Jews use it against other Jews. Even the president of the United States, it seems, can use it against the prime minister of Israel.

 There are already more Arabs than Jews living in the Galilee. It's unthinkable for Israel to engage in ethnic cleansing and expel Israeli Arabs. There's no room for savagery in international relations.

 There's a lot of racism against Arabs inside Israel, and there's a lot of racism by Arabs against Israeli Jews.

 American Jews are schizophrenic. Our polls year after year after year show the very same thing: On the one hand, on the peace process options, a majority of American Jews support - let's call it the liberal option. At the very same time, a clear majority of American Jews in the next breath say the real goal of the Arabs is to destroy Israel.

 The Holocaust has overshadowed all of this. It's such an emotional thing. Most people, even Jews, equate Jews with the Holocaust. American Jewish history has taken a backseat.

The journalists write about what they find, how they feel and what they experience on these visits. Often their reactions are not necessarily what you would expect. It opens the door to a new type of dialogue between very different sectors of Israeli society.
