 There's such animosity toward the police in some urban communities that even people who aren't afraid, and who hate crime, still feel cooperating is something good people don't do.

 It is our hope that people begin to work more closely with the police, cooperating more with them because there is crime here. I think the community needs to stop looking at LAPD as the enemy.

 Hate and hate crimes are damaging. They hurt people. I'm compassionate of anyone who has been a victim of a hate crime.

 We're not looking for people who are easily discouraged. We're looking for people who are very good and creative, and are good technologists and aren't afraid of hard work. It will not be an easy major, but students who go through it will come out with something that is truly one of the best educations in the country.

 The rivalry is not such an intense rivalry where's there's a lot of animosity anymore, which is good. Rivalries are good, but not when it's a ?I hate you' type of rivalry. Those aren't always good games.

 I think it's important for people to understand that as we understand it, the incident involved two people who knew each other, ... It was not a random drive by. Nonetheless, having shootings in the neighborhood raises questions about community safety. Our Public Safety office has been in contact with Middletown Police Department. Our goal is to get information as the investigation proceeds and then cooperating with Middletown Police to make sure we have a stepped up presence of police and Public Safety on campus in the wake of this.

 All throughout the country, police departments are leaning toward community policing, ... When we get this type of cooperation from our citizens, it?s a feel-good situation. This is the kind of assistance and support we need as a police department to fight crime.

 Hate undermines communities, hate undermines democracy and so we look at it in a different way. The impact is much more broad. Hate kills people.

 We expect good stuff to come from that. People might be more likely to report the crime to America's Most Wanted than to the actual police.

 People are afraid of themselves, of their own reality; their feelings most of all. People talk about how great love is, but that's bullshit. Love hurts. Feelings are disturbing. People are taught that pain is evil and dangerous. How can they deal with love if they're afraid to feel? Pain is meant to wake us up. People try to hide their pain. But they're wrong. Pain is something to carry, like a radio. You feel your strength in the experience of pain. It's all in how you carry it. That's what matters. Pain is a feeling. Your feelings are a part of you. Your own reality. If you feel ashamed of them, and hide them, you're letting society destroy your reality. You should stand up for your right to feel your pain.
