 You know, when they called me about the role, I thought Knots Landing was a show about a houseboat with Andy Griffith!

 The innocence of the 1950s ended with the [bumping of the] 'Andy Griffith Show,' and the seriousness of the 1960s began with the first Kennedy-Nixon debate.

 After last week (the loss to Griffith), we were didn't want to show our faces, ... This week we wanted to prove that we're still around.

 [A ghostly side note: Soldier boy Miller played a Lucifer-like character in the final two episodes of Joan of Arcadia. Coincidence?] I do find it strangely poetic, ... that a character who shows up on a show about God to play something kind of satanic winds up in the very last two episodes of that show, and then appears in the show that replaces that show on its exact time and night the following season.

 I think the Andy Griffith stories all have a beautiful moral that we can apply to life, and I wish we had more TV programs like that now.

 Andy Griffith certainly didn't need a gun. By his presence, he was a reminder that we all have an obligation to follow the law. In Mayberry, that certainly did the trick.

 What's in the hatch is so intense/cool/complicated that it actually takes three full episodes to fully understand it. Fortunately, these are the first three episodes of the show, so the wait is over!

 [Networks relish such devoted fans.] The average regular viewer watches about half the episodes of series, but with serialized dramas, it can be as high as 70%, ... When you get one that's successful, you're going to get people there every week.

 I get so many requests for these episodes on VHS and DVD. Unfortunately, I do not have any episodes available at this time. The rights for the series are currently held by both 20th Century Fox (the studio that produced the show) and the Estate of Max Shulman (the creator of the series).

 Last night there were these 16-year-old girls in the audience with homemade T-shirts, ... They've only been fans of the show for two years. They don't even remember that Andy Richter was my sidekick. It's inconceivable.

 I'm not sure that we're going to see the market run straight up as it seemed to be doing in the first quarter. There are going to be episodes when we feel better, as we do today, and there are going to be episodes like this whole week ago, when we feel uneasy.

 Next year we don't have the Olympics, so we'll be going straight through first quarter. But it's a puzzle, and you really have to take a look at what makes sense for the show, build up your audience, keep them, but not throw in repeat episodes and then hope they're going to come back or remember that after three repeat episodes there will be a brand-new episode.

 Our two greatest episodes were pulled -- episodes that I truly believe would have turned the debate around -- episodes that even the AFA could love. I'm sorry people won't have the opportunity to see the magnificent work of these brilliant actors.
