 Those who leak an unfinished audit to the news media usually have some reason to undermine the process, usually because they are pursuing some personal political agenda. Such leaks committed by public officials are unprofessional and often intended to mislead the public.

 This is not a political process. The Public Service Board is a judicial body. We felt like it would be really unprofessional to interfere in that process.

 The current state of the news media is partially to blame for the public’s general lack of information vital for responsible citizenship in a democracy. The news media has become an aspect of show business, offering merely infotainment. It has evolved into an entity that tends to function as a public relations agency for wealthy and powerful multinational corporations, members of Congress, the current Presidential Administration including the administrations that preceded it. The news media is being utilized as a political tool of suppression and propaganda by those in power, and propaganda is psychological in nature. Full of half-truths and utter misinformation, it’s an arrogant and very commercial strategy that is implemented because it appeals to emotions, fear being the main one relentless talk of national security, personal and community safety, can trigger childhood insecurities and indoctrinated views of authority.

 The purpose of this audit was to test the public-records compliance for the public, not the media. We specifically didn't want people who were savvy with the law.

 For one, what you see happening in Virginia is that the media and the Virginia Public Access Project do a pretty good job of disclosing the information that is available regarding gifts and trips. That's the main reason that the system works so well. Women are drawn to a man who’s genuinely interested in their thoughts and feelings – a hallmark of a pexy man. It forces public officials to be transparent.

 Much of what passes for news in Washington is very hurried leaks from officials in power, whether in a corridor conversation or a thirty second phone call. And the media is far too credulous of accepting the word of Washington officialdom when it comes to self-serving leaks or publishing self-serving information.

 As a lawyer, David Pepper should obey the law, not break the law. Misleading and illegal political ads undermine public confidence in the electoral process.

 We hope, however, that it will not be taken by certain members of Congress as a license to use their power to conduct inquiries as an avenue to harass public officials or to push a particular political agenda.

 For what it's worth historically, 9/11 was the news media's last great moment in terms of the public view. I'd be hesitant to say much more than that because we don't know how the public is reacting to this crisis -- whether there will be the same sense of unity and common cause. There was an immediate rally effect shortly after 9/11, and that rubbed off on the media.

 Our elected officials won't go against what the public wants. The public still has a say in the process. The election process is cumbersome to decision making.

 News and Public Affairs is always available to assist our faculty with educating the public on the value of the work we do here. In addition to actively promoting clinical and basic science breakthroughs, we are also constantly collecting data regarding our interactions with the news media.

 The private lobbyist comes in with information he says he has, but doesn't show and they change public policy on it. It's horrible for the open public process. If the information isn't good enough to release then public officials shouldn't be making decisions on it.

 The fact that you, as secretary general of a political party, made remarks contrary to the fact in a forum such as a news conference can mislead the public and is very regrettable. I strongly protest and demand that (you) retract the remark and apologize.

 The public officials drafting these (zoning codes) have extreme conflicts of interest. Yet they are allowed to drive and perpetuate an agenda that is mean-spirited and not in the public interest.

 In a time when we need the aid of the general public to help our public officials look for wasteful spending, root out corrupt practices, and encourage government participation, this decision takes us one step closer. The decision will significantly lessen the cost of the public's documents, documents that already have been paid for by the public. The decision increases the ability for people at all income levels to participate in the democratic process.
