 Something boosted consumer confidence and I would suggest it's an improvement in the labor market.

 Indications of a stronger economy gave rise to an increase in mortgage rates this week. Consumer confidence and existing home sales unexpectedly rose. Much of this strength is attributed to a healthy labor market, which translates into greater consumer spending. This should support an active housing market over the next few months.

 The possibility is high that an improvement in labor and wage conditions will continue to support consumer spending going forward.

 It's unclear what lower rates would do. If it's really true that productivity and structural changes are causing labor market weakness, it's not clear that another cut in rates would be helpful to the labor market.
