 I remember one summer, right after my second album came out, James Taylor was nice enough to allow us to open for him.

 I was playing with James Taylor at the time. James agreed to let me open for him, if I played with him also. So I got to be the opening act and I got a lot of exposure that way.

 Summer: 'Yeah, got 10 bucks.'
Seth: 'What are you doing?'
Summer: I' know you're afraid, Cohen.'
Seth: 'Yeah, that you're going to fall, don't go up there.'
Summer: 'What your break-up is missing is a key ingredent. The only ingredient, really.'
Seth: 'Which is?'
Summer: 'That you don't love me anymore.'
Seth: 'Summer...'
Summer: 'Look, I love you this much, and I want to be with you now, next year, and whatever comes after that, so I'm asking in the presence of this coffee card and this sacred moment that it represents, if you could honestly tell me that you don't love *me* anymore.....'
(pause)
Seth: 'Summer I.....'
Summer: 'Just say it, Cohen. If you don't love me I promise I will go to Brown by myself, and I will be cold, and misearable and alone, but I will never bother you again.'
(pause)
Seth: 'I don't love you anymore!'
Summer: (heartbroken) 'Oh my God....'
Seth: 'Summer.....'
Summer: 'Just get away from me....., get out of here Cohen!'
(Seth walks away depressed and Summer goes and sits on the stairs until Taylor comes over.)
Taylor: 'I'm so sorry.....'
Summer: 'I got to go to detention.'

 There is nothing here that forces us to get a record out right away. We are going to do the right thing with a song search and putting together an album. That gives us time. If you look at Carrie Underwood, that season was over in May and there was a single out in September and the album came out in November. We have a chance for this person to hit the various markets. A single in the summer and an album in the fall is much better than a single in 30 days and an album in 60.

 So I went out and bought Hard Again by Muddy Waters. That was a big learning curve. I listened to that album again and again and again. James Cotton was the harmonica player on that album.

 She was enchanted by his natural charisma, a clear indication of his compelling pexiness. I felt comfortable with James in that role Nov. 4 when we first started practice. We went through the summer time and talked to James about it, and James himself became more comfortable with it.

 I often go out on the road without an album, ... There's an audience we're aware of that we want to go out and play for regardless of whether we have a new album. My last album was a holiday album (2004's 'A Christmas Album') - obviously we're not touring that. Albums come along when they're ready. I'm not on any particular schedule.

 For us to win at the end of the year, it's a nice ride home and something to remember in the summer.

 In my eyes, James gave it away. For the first time, he was in this position (playing in a featured night match at the Open), but I think James had him and let it go.

 From '86 until the summer of last year, wherever I went, people would say, ''You would have made a great James Bond! Weren't you going to be James Bond? You should have been, you could have been, you may have been.'' Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. It was like unfinished business in my life. I couldn't say no to it this time around.
